Not in the Race and Glad

I gotta admit this is one of those times when I am proud to not be a member of the human race. Funny I used the word “race” in that last sentence. Because race is what disgusts me with some humans. Who the hell cares what race a person belongs to? If there is only one person who can save your life, do you care about their race? Only if you’re an idiot.

As Pop would and does say, “What the duck is wrong with people?” Sure, when you first lay eyes on someone you notice things like their sex, race, age, etc. But after that you get to know what the person is like inside, that’s what you remember about them.

I’ll give you an example. Pop has a friend who has a large wine color birthmark on his face. The first time she met him she almost stared at his face the whole time, even though she tried not to. That meeting took place over twenty years ago and if you ask her today which side of his face the birthmark is on, she can’t tell you for sure. See, once she got to know him and became friends with him, he was so much more than a person with a birthmark. That the birthmark disappeared from her memory. Instead today she thinks of his sense of humor, his kindness, and his friendship. These have obliterated her first vision of him…and that’s the way it should be. The real value of a person is who they are, not what they look like.

Have a wonderful weekend

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)

The Dirt Begins to Fly

So far, from the right we have heard that Judge Sotomayor is a racist and not very smart. What? Are they jealous that she isn’t in their party? If she were a racist and poorly educated seems to me she would fit in nicely with them.

Of course she is neither a racist nor is she unintelligent, but that doesn’t stop them from saying it. Sometimes that gift of the freedom of speech seems to be abused in a very crude way.

Judge Sotomayor

Wow, I’ve discovered I have three things in common with Judge Sotomayor. We are both female, we both grew up reading Nancy Drew books and we both, at one time, lived in the projects as kids. Actually I have reread some of those Nancy Drew books as an adult because they take me back to the pleasure I found reading them as a kid.

Now we sit back and watch the right wingers go crazy while at the same time trying not to offend Hispanics or women. This should be interesting.

Memorial Day

Did you do anything out of the ordinary to observe Memorial Day yesterday? We did. We observed the moment of silence at three yesterday afternoon. It just felt right.

What the Hell?

Someone please explain this to me. For eight years the Democrats in the Senate folded to bush for just about everything he asked for. Now that we have a Democratic President they are saying no to his request for money to close down Gitmo. What the hell is going on?

Where was the Love Then?

We are hearing a lot of Republicans defending and standing up for the CIA now that the dust up is going on with Nancy Pelosi. Where was all that love and devotion to the CIA when Valerie Plame was exposed by the bush administration? I don’t remember the Republicans getting upset over the outing of a covert officer, in fact many of them were disputing the fact that her position was covert.

Is it just me?

I’m having a blogger problem. I have lost track on how to get any help from Blogger so I’ll ask you about my problem.

Each morning I post my post for the day, then I hit “view blog” and there’s the new post here on the site. Later in the day when I come to my site, the newest post no longer shows and I have to hit “reload” to make the most recent post show again. This has only been happening for the past four or five days. Does anyone know what’s going on and is anyone else experiencing this at this site, their own site or other sites?

Thank you in advance for any help or explanation you might have for me.

The Republicans’ Ball and Chain

Several years ago the republicans needed the far right Christians to win votes. They clamped that ball and chain around their ankles when they needed them. The ball at the end of that chain was great for them as it rolled forward and pulled the Republican party ahead. Now however they can’t unclamp that ball and chain. They are having to struggle to drag that ball forward and it’s painfully dragging their party down.

Fred the Cat Shares some things about Martini

As a cat, I observe certain things about Martini. Here’s a few I thought I would share.

He weighs almost seven pounds.
He’s eleven inches tall.
He will be three years old in November.
He doesn’t like to go outside in the when it’s dark.
He really doesn’t like to walk in wet grass.
According to the instructions on his dog food, he should eat an eighth of a cup per meal and he eats two meals a day.
He never eats every kibble of his dog food and always leaves two little kibbles uneaten. I guess he doesn’t want to look like a pig.
He is afraid to eat out of a plate or bowl. He has no problem drinking water out of his water bowl though. We have no idea why a food bowl frightens him. So Pop gives him his food on a paper towel. That works for all parties concerned.
He saw a gopher tortoise that was larger than he is and he wanted to bite its shell. He didn’t but he sure wanted to.
He is totally mentally absorbed when looking at lizards in the yard.
If Pop says, listen, he does. He stops doing whatever he’s doing and actually listens.
He sleeps in his bed laying upside down with his belly up.
And here’s my favorite. If Animal Planet is on TV and there are dogs in the story, not only does he watch but if the dogs bark like they are in trouble, he walks over to the TV and stands straight up on his back legs for a minute or two. The guy seems to get heavily involved in whatever he is watching.

Martini has been with us a little over 14 weeks now and this just wouldn’t be home without him. He fits in here like a little round peg in a little round hole, perfectly.

Have a great weekend and share something fun with someone

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys)

( If you are curious about that little green thing on my collar in this picture here’s the deal. This picture was taken before I was chipped and if you unscrewed that little green thing, there was a little scroll of paper inside telling Pop’s phone number and promising a reward if I should get lost and someone found me. I have gone hi-tech now so I no longer wear my little ID green thing.)

The Torture Photos

I have mixed emotions about the President deciding to fight the release of the torture photos. On one hand, I don’t need to see the evidence of a crime I already know was committed. These pictures have to be at the very least deeply disturbing and nightmarish. But on the other hand, perhaps the country does need to see them to make it understand the horrid acts that have been done in our name.

As to the question about would the release of these photos put our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq in more danger, I say maybe it’s best to err on the side of their safety if there is any doubt.

Strange Things

You know strange things are happening lately when you see Dick Cheney on TV more than you see the ShamWow guy.

Same Cheney and Maybe the Same Scam

We’ve all heard Cheney calling for these particular memos to be declassified that support his claim that water boarding resulted in obtaining actionable intelligence. He claims these memos will show that lives were saved due to what they were told after detainees were tortured.

Something about his demands and claims sounds familiar to me. It reminds me of claims the bush white house made before they invaded Iraq. They claimed that Iraq had WMD and demanded Saddam prove that he didn’t have them. They claimed his inability to show them proof was evidence that he indeed did have them.

I wonder if that’s not what Cheney is doing now. Demanding something be brought forth that just doesn’t exist. Are there really such memos? Is he demanding the release of nonexistent memos to make it look like the white house is hiding something? It wouldn’t be the first time he has based a case on something that just isn’t there. Cheney knows the scam of demanding proof of a negative. Could it be that he’s doing that again?

And by the way, is Cheney inviting another attack on America by running around all over the place and announcing that America isn’t as well protected today as it was during his reign?

He Can Make the Sick Laugh

“In the next hundred days our bipartisan outreach will be so successful that even John Boehner will consider becoming a Democrat. After all we have a lot in common. He is a person of color--although not a color that appears in the natural world.”
-President Barack Obama-
May 9, 2009

As sick as I was yesterday and oh god, I was sick, (probably food poinsoning) when I watched a rerun of the President speaking at the correspondents dinner, the above quote made me laugh until I cried.

One of my other favorite lines was when he said, “In the next hundred days I will strongly consider losing my cool.”

I don’t know who wrote his material, but I thought it was great, along with his delivery. One more reason to be so damned proud of that vote I cast last November.

Pop’s Bloomers

I, Fred the Cat, just have to tell you about Pop’s bloomers. Some are white, some are red others are pink, lavender, yellow, purple. She has them in all different colors. She is a bloomer freak.

The roses and the gardenias are some of her favorite bloomers, others are the day lilies and the Easter lilies.

Just like the Cheshire Cat, I shall fade away now leaving nothing here but a grin.

Have a great weekend and enjoy all the bloomers you see.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)

None of My Business

I am trying like hell to avoid any of the TV conversations about Elizabeth Edwards’ new book and the part about the affair her husband, John Edwards, had. Just as with the Clintons way back when, I didn’t feel that what President Clinton did was any of my business and the details should stay between the President and his wife.

Why Ms Edwards wants to write a book, go on TV and discuss the gory details of her husband’s sexual affair, is beyond me. I don’t want to hear about any of it. It just isn’t any of my business and the discussion of it makes me feel like some sort of voyeur. None for me, thanks. Keep private matters private. If you don’t respect yourself enough to keep private matters private, how can you expect others to respect you?

Three Months of Love

Yesterday marked three months that Martini has been a part of this family. Wow, that three months zoomed right by. Funny, now it feels like he has always been here, but I don’t take one minute of his being here for granted. Gotta put it all to memory to enjoy over and over.

He’s much more at home and comfortable these days than he was in the beginning. Now if we tease him with his toys, he’ll bark and show some healthy playful aggression. He wants to play tug of war and when he does he growls that little frustrated doggie growl.

Yesterday I was sitting on the carpet in the bedroom throwing his toys for him to fetch. He was playing and running his little legs off. At one point I threw the toy for him and he started to go fetch it but then he just stopped. He turned around wagging that little tail with his ears down and came running back to me, jumped in my lap, stood on his back legs and gave me a big doggie kiss right on my nose. That was a very special moment for both of us. I think it was a mutual toast of some sort to three months of having fun and feeling the love.

Sadistic Joy

Am I the only one relishing some sort of sadistic joy while watching the Republicans try to erect their big tent in the middle of a circular firing squad all the while telling us they are the party of freedom? Not sure which freedom they are talking about, the one that doesn’t give women the freedom of choice or the one that doesn’t give gays the freedom of marriage.

Whatever they are talking about, there are times when you can tell they don’t even believe what they are saying. You have to admit, there is a certain dark entertainment in listening to them and watching their show. I never knew desperation could have a humorous side.

I have no idea

We went to a buy some plants for our butterfly garden yesterday, and when we returned to our car, we saw this one in the parking lot. The point of the car decoration? I have no idea.

The Boys in Charge

Mr. Pop was gone, due to business meetings, three days and two nights this past week. That left Martini and me, Fred the Cat, in charge of taking care of the house and Pop. Us guys got the job done and Mr. Pop came home to a safe and sound homestead.

Martini is a little dude, but he has a big bark. The first couple of times I heard him bark it scared me. The last several years of Murphy’s life he never barked because he couldn’t hear anything, so I had forgotten what it was like to hear a dog bark in the house. Martini only barks if he hears a noise outside that he doesn’t recognize. As soon as Pop checks it out and tells him, “everything is okay”, he just wiggles around and wags that little thing the Pops call his “tail”. Ha! Compared to my own lovely fluffy tail, his is almost non existent.

So us boys held down the fort for Mr. Pop and he thanked us both with a whole bunch of love and affection. Being in charge has its rewards if the job is well done.

Pop found this quote but cannot find the author: “Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.” She thinks it has a special message for everyone these days.

Have a great weekend and practice dancing just incase a storm might be coming.

Sincerely,

Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)
