The President for this time?

There is a lot being said these days about the President not standing up to the republicans on Healthcare Reform and lots of other things.

This is just my opinion. I think this President, a black man, would have never gotten where he is today by being a hard ass. He learned early on that to make any progress in this world, he would have to be able to give and take. Let's face it, even our country wasn't ready for a kick ass, take no names, black man. I'm not sure he has the capability to kick butt, it just may not be in him. Sadly our political situation has gotten beyond doing what is right for the country and has instead become a party political battle field year around. We may have a President that is better than what we need or deserve.

Gold and Thefts

Mr. Pop got to talk to our neighbor who was robbed a couple of weeks ago. The only thing the burglars took was the neighbor’s wife’s gold jewelry. The police told the neighbor that since these “We buy Gold” places have popped up on every other corner in this area, homes are being broken into for gold jewelry.

I guess I can understand desperate people doing desperate things, but with everyone and his brother packing heat it stands to reason that these times of desperation are going to inevitably result in a tragedy. These are different times we live in these days and it’s sad for so many reasons.

United Nations Speech

I sure felt a lot different yesterday as I watched the President speak before the United Nations than I felt when the former President of the US spoke. Damn, this time I was all proud and everything. Not once did I want to cover my face due to embarrassment. What a change a few months can make.

On the Wagon for a Day

Yesterday morning Mr. Pop took Martini with him on his way to the lab. Martini was dropped off at the vet’s for his appointment to have his teeth cleaned. So why was I crying off and on all day? Because I missed my little friend and buddy.

This was the longest Martini and I have been apart since February 5th of this year, the day he became our little dog. Sure he has been to the groomer’s many times, but that’s always on Saturday morning when we drop him off there, do our weekly shopping, come home put the groceries away and then go and pick him up. Until yesterday I had never been home alone without him for more than seven months which is also ever.

To make matters worse, I couldn’t give him his breakfast yesterday morning as per the vet’s instructions. That sweet little dog face kept looking at me and begging for food. He was hungry and just didn’t understand why we weren’t going through our usual morning routine. My heart breaks rather easily sometimes.

So yesterday was a long day without my little Martini. I guess you could say I was forced to go on the emotional wagon for most of a day.

***
This Saturday, Martini goes to the groomer and later if the weather is nice outside we’ll put his new shirt on him and get some pictures that I can post next week.

Time for Security

I think I have mentioned in the past that we have been considering having a security system installed in our home. Week before last we even had a security company representative come out and tell us what it would cost to do all we want to do. We got his total cost just before we left for Amelia Island and on the trip we discussed all the pros and cons of putting the system in.

When we returned home last Saturday one of our neighbors across the street told us another neighbor’s home only two doors down from us had been broken into and the thieves had stolen the ladies jewelry. They cut the screen of their pool enclosure and broke the sliding glass door that went from the pool area into the house.

So that made our decision easy for us, Mr. Pop called the security company and told them we are putting in the system. Sometimes reality just shows you the way.

Martini’s Behavior and Reward

We had a terrific time in Amelia Island and as always, Martini charmed everyone he met.

Wednesday when we arrived to the hotel our room wasn’t ready yet so we went to have a late lunch at a sidewalk café. There were tables and chairs inside and out. In Florida you are allowed to bring your dog to lunch with you if there is outside seating

The outside tables and chairs were under roof with fans and a wonderful breeze was keeping it very comfortable. This was Martini’s first outing of this sort so we were a little skeptical of how he would behave. The waitress brought him a bowl of cold water which he was very happy about. When the food came I told him to lay down and wait. He did just as he was told and entertained himself by watching all the other people. He neither begged for food or made a sound.

As a reward for his excellent behavior we took him to the doggie boutique and purchased a new tank top for him. It’s black and on the back in silver letters it says, “It’s Yappy Hour”. The “Y” in yappy is styled to look just like a martini glass with little clear sequins outlining the glass and a green sequin where the olive would be in the glass. He is totally a dude in that shirt and it’s another reminder to us that we did indeed adopt the perfect little dog. Plus, the notification of happy hour isn’t bad either.

Off to Amelia Island

In a couple of hours Mr. Pop, Martini and I are off to Amelia Island for the rest of the week. The Mayor, Fred the Cat, will be at the vets and he’ll also be getting his yearly shots. Double hell for the ladies who work at the vet’s.

Mr. Pop will be attending meeting and Martini and I will be doing a little shopping in between being beach bums. I’ve already scoped out a little doggie boutique on the island so my wallet better be ready for some serious action.

I plan to basically tune out the world and all news related items until we get back home. My sanity needs a rest. Besides I would rather fuss over a little dog than fuss about the goings on in the world.

Be sweet and I’ll see you next Monday.

A Political Preacher?

Am I the only one that thinks that Glenn Beck is insane? Okay either mean or insane or maybe just another insincere noise machine like the TV evangelical preachers who spout all sorts of fiction and then beg their viewers to send them money.

Beck doesn’t do his performance and ask his viewers to send money, he doesn’t have to because the bigger his viewing audience, the better his ratings, the more money FOX gives him.

I am betting that before long there will be talk of drafting him for President for 2012. And it scares the hell out of me that there might be just enough people in this country who would want to do that.

I wish they would bring back the Jerry Springer show so that Beck’s followers, the tea party cult, could get back to doing what they used to do, sitting on the couch and cheering for one of their own that Jerry would often bring on his show.

Party and Cooking Oil

The Republican party is like the cooking oils that McDonald’s and KFC used to use to fry their foods in, it tasted good to some but was bad for everyone.

What a Week!

Fred the Cat is bummed out because Fred the Hurricane isn’t frightening anyone in the US.

This was a trifecta week for the Republicans. First they claimed the President was going to indoctrinate American children with socialism. Then Wednesday night Representative Joe Wilson said to the President, “You lie!”. And finally, we saw pictures of Representative Cantor texting while the President was speaking. Way to go, right wing dudes! Call us if you need any help making your party look totally useless. But, to be honest you are doing a great job all by yourselves.

The President’s Speech

After hearing the President’s speech last night, do you feel more or less positive about the healthcare reform bill?

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Truther bad. Birther good?

Okay, at some point Van Jones signed a “truther” petition and as a result he lost his job as advisor to the President on green jobs.

We have heard more than a few republicans question the place of the President’s birth and by doing so, made themselves “birthers”. How many of them have lost their job as a result?

House of Mirrors Hell

I have come to the conclusion that our country has entered the door of the house of mirrors.

Some lunatic on TV, Glenn Beck, raises so much hell about one of the President’s advisors that he, Van Jones, has to give up his job.

The President of the United States wants to speak to school kids about how they should work hard and complete their years of education. In our country at this time, kids have to get permission from their parents to hear the speech. How did it come to this?

There is an insurance bill in the making that could greatly benefit a whole lot of people in this country who are not covered by any sort of medical , yet the republican party opposes it. I don’t think they are so much opposed to the bill as they are opposed to it getting passed by this President.

Just like in a house of mirrors, at this time in our country, things look contorted, ugly and frightening. Where is the door and how do we get the hell out of here?

Cats walking on air?

Remember the three feral cats Pop told you about that were climbing up the outside screen and getting on the roof. The part she forgot to tell you was they were walking on the screen that forms a roof over the pool. The Pop’s didn’t notice until this week that seeing those cats walking up there had upset me in some way. Now that the cats are no longer up there I have calmed down and feel much more content when I’m spending time on the patio. For us cats, looking up and seeing cats appear to be walking on air is very upsetting.

In this picture you can’t see the screen behind me, but it’s there. I couldn’t see the screen above me but it was there and those crazy cats were dumb enough to walk on it.

Do I miss those cats? Not one bit.

Have a great weekend because before you know it Fall will be here.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)

Anxiety

For Floridians all summer and into the fall is hurricane season. Any plans we make we have one eye on the weather and what might be happening in the Atlantic. It’s just par for the course. So there is a little built-in anxiety hovering in the background most of the time.

Yesterday we received a reverse 911 call from the local police department informing us there has been a rash of residential and automobile burglaries in our area. We were asked to be sure our cars are locked at all times, to lock all our windows and doors of our homes and to keep our outside perimeter lights on all night long. I am grateful that the police are warning us about this and I even thanked them for the information.

So now we aren’t just a little edgy about the weather but also we have to be edgy about trying to keep our homes and cars safe. I remember the days when my mom and dad never locked our home. No one bothered to in the neighborhood. I’m not sure what happened since then but if it hadn’t there would be a little less anxiety in this world and in our lives right now.

Thank you, Fred the Cat

Fred the Cat, along with those three feral little cats that he recruited to help him the last couple of months, stimulated the economy to the tune of $265.00 yesterday as I had to replace seven large screen panels in our screen enclosure. Fred the Cat can do enough damage on his own on the inside, but having those other three cats climbing up and down the screen on the outside, speeded up the replacement necessity.

The man who replaces our screens swears he sends money to Fred the Cat to encourage him to do the damages. If this is true, the guy gets his money’s worth from Fred’s efforts.

The rewards of spewing bull fecal matter

These are facts reported on the front page of The Palm Beach Post yesterday, see if you can guess whose home this describes.

The home was purchased by him in 2008 for the price of $40,549,376. The value of the home today is $48,303,931. The value of his home has gone up 19.1% since he purchased it.

The home is 32,000 square feet and it sits on 3 acres of land along the ocean with a pool and elevator.

So who owns this mansion? None other than Rush Limbaugh. I guess you can make a pretty good living ranting and spewing bull fecal matter all day long in a radio station.
