Guess what this is

Just thought I would leave you with a guessing game while I accompany Mr. Pop on another business trip. We are leaving this afternoon and will be back here some time Friday afternoon.

The little dog I wrote about yesterday weighs about seven pounds and is about eleven inches tall. We’ve decided he’s large enough that Fred can’t bat him under the couch or the refrigerator. That’s where everything else Fred touches usually ends up.

Fred loves dogs so, if given the opportunity, these guys just might become bunk buddies. The lady from the rescue organization will be coming to my house this weekend for an inspection. All the rescue groups do this. She will come here to see if all the things I told her in my application are true. Fred better be on his best behavior.

See ya either late Friday or most likely Saturday morning. Be sweet and if you do throw a party here while I’m gone, please recycle the bottles and cans. Oh, and when I return I’ll tell what you are looking at in the picture, and we’ll see who got it right.

Back in the chase for a little dog

Here we go again on the project of getting a new little dog. This time I filled out an application for a Yorkie rescue. But I filled out the wrong application.

Here’s what happened. I found a Yorkie rescue site and there was a picture of a little dog who looked just right. I sent an email to the people listed at the site. I quickly received an email back with a link instructing me to fill out their application. Sadly, the link to the application site was incorrect. So I Googled for a Yorkie site and found what appeared to be the right one. I filled out the very long, very detailed application and submitted it. Then I emailed the lady to inform her that I had submitted my information for their consideration. She emailed me back that they did not receive the application.

By now I realized what had happened, I had applied to the wrong group. Being a little frustrated, I just said to hell with it, and mentally moved on.

Well, Sunday morning I got a call from the group where I had mistakenly applied. The lady told me about a little two year old Yorkie that needed a home. He’s about twenty miles from my home. Tomorrow they are taking him to the vet just to have his tires kicked and to check under his hood. They have all his medical records and he’s already been neutered. I can’t see him in person yet but she did tell me where I could see him on the net. Oh my god is he beautiful. I won’t direct you to his photo yet for privacy reasons. You just have to take my word for it. Plus, and this is a big plus, he loves cats!!

She didn’t say for sure that I could have him, but I have a better shot than some. Hopefully I will have good news by the end of the week. Keep your paws crossed for us, please.

Fred the Cat’s Salute to the old President

You guys said good-bye to your old president your way. I am saying it my way in this photo. I just showed him my big bushy feline behind.

President Obama has been the President for three days now. How do you think he’s doing so far?

Pop told me she thinks he is the cat’s pajamas. I think she just made the cat reference for me. I also heard her say she thought he was “Ducking wonderful”. There weren’t even any ducks around at the time so I don’t know why she made the duck reference.

Humans, you can live with them but you can’t always understand them.

Have a great weekend with your favorite human.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (The cat who loves you guys!)

Something seems a little screwy here

Didn’t it used to be that some people without money would go into a bank with a gun and rob the bank? Now it seems that some banks without money are coming to the tax payers and robbing us. Heck, they don’t even need to bother to use a gun, all they need is a threat.

Kind of gives the term “bank robber” a whole new meaning, doesn’t it?

Yesterday

What an unbelievable day that was! Mr. Pop had a prescheduled meeting that he just couldn’t reschedule, so it was just Fred the Cat and me here watching TV.

Fred the Cat fell asleep about nine and then it was just me. As I sat here watching and listening to the talking heads, I was jubilant. Then when I saw the limo pull up and let President Obama and Michelle out, for their meeting with the bushes, and they walked into to the white house, the tears started creeping up on me. Not only did they keep doing that and trailing down my cheeks, they didn’t stop until some time after the whole inaugural event was over.

I’m not sure that it’s all real to me yet. It just seems like something I have wanted so long, and with each victory there was always another hurdle ahead. I keep feeling like there must be one more hurdle. But there isn’t and now our work begins with our new President.

My favorite line from President Obama’s inauguration speech was this one:
“We reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.”

Yes We Do!

Good Morning America!

How are you?

I am so freaking excited today that I can’t think straight. The day we waited for, for so damned long, has finally arrived. To me it’s like the best birthday, the best Christmas, the best every day, all wrapped up into one.

I will be glued to the TV all day. I don’t want to miss one moment, one emotion, one word. I want to soak it all up and enjoy this delicious day.

Our time is finally here! My American flag will fly today and it will fly prouder than it has in a very long time.

Would It Have Been Possible?

Tomorrow for so many people will be a dream they never believed could come true.
Tomorrow promises to be an awe inspiring day.

Would it have been possible without the man whose birthday we honor today?
Perhaps, but I wonder.

The fiasco is almost over

And Celebration Time is Approaching

Just think, you can count the number of days until you guys have a new president, on one paw.

If I didn’t know better I would swear the Pops have been into my catnip. They are all excited and laughing and having such a good time. I think I had better keep a low profile next Tuesday because I expect there’s going to be some human fun things going on around here.

Pop got a new “Celebration” Martini glass from Santa. She used it New Year’s Eve and I heard her say she’s going to use it Tuesday too. She’s just celebration crazy right now.

Have a great weekend and get ready to CELEBRATE!

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (The cat who loves you guys!)

More about the invitation I received

Here’s a little bit more on the inaugural invite I received last weekend. You can also see what they look like in the picture.

Seems one million of these were mailed out to various people. I don’t know if my name was drawn out of a hat or what. (Does that make me one in a million?) From what I’m reading on the net, some people are getting them and thinking they are tickets or something. The paper that came with the invite clearly says you are invited to all public events if you are in the DC area. It also clearly states that it is a commemorative invitation. So I’m not sure what is confusing about that. Some are calling it junk, but to me it’s a gift.

Anyway, I’m saving mine, because to me, it’s just kind of special.

The TV Change

Have the local TV stations where you live been testing to see if you’re ready for the change to digital TV? We have cable and we had been told over and over by the cable company that we had nothing to worry about.

Well, several weeks ago one local TV station ran a test and when the switch was thrown, all we saw was a message telling us we needed to purchase a converter box. I totally freaked and immediately called the cable company….me and about every cable customer in the area. When I finally got to talk to a human at the cable company they told me that a mistake had been made and we definitely would not need a converter box.

A couple of weeks later the same local TV station ran another test. This time Mr. Pop and I just looked at each other. When they threw the switch this time, we didn’t see the message and our viewing was uninterrupted. Mr. Pop and I spontaneously irrupted in a cheer of , “We passed the test!” Funny how something as simple as that can get you all excited.

I’m invited!

Okay, well sorta. I’m sure that everyone who contributed to President-elect Obama’s campaign got one of these commemorative invitations to the inauguration in the mail, but hey, it’s kind of cool and I’ve never received anything like this before. If you haven’t seen one, it’s beautiful. It’s eight by ten, with the inaugural seal embossed in gold on the top. Definitely frame-able.

Just one more week to wait. Then we can watch history being made that will be talked about forever.

Best ten bucks spent this year

If you aren’t in financial trouble now, you are probably worried that you might be soon. Who isn’t?

In this time of financial anxiety I decided to buy one of Suze Orman’s books. This is a little paperback and at Barnes and Noble, it was ten bucks.
It’s only about 210 pages but it covers just about every financial situation possible and tells you what action you should take to work toward correcting the problem and also what to avoid.

I found “Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan” but to be a treasure. I’m not a big fan of Ms Orman’s, but she knows about money and how best to save and spend it. At a time like this, I’m not going to let my personal feelings about someone get in the way of a safer and more secure financial year ahead.

I strongly suggest that everyone pick up this little book. Not only will you feel more in control, but it’s like having a little financial adviser right there at home with you.

My Secret Job

Sure, you guys think I am just some lazy cat sleeping all day with a few timeouts to eat, but you are wrong. I have a full time secret job.

I work for a man named Mark. Mark repairs and replaces screens panels around pools and patios. Each day I try to rip one or more screens here on the Pop’s patio. Not a big rip, but just a little one. Then after some time, Pop has to call Mark to come replace the screen or sections of screen. Yesterday Mark came and replaced three screen panels I had just about destroyed. Mark made $125.00 for the job. I still haven’t figured out my cut yet. I did hear him tell Pop he gives her a discount because my destruction is so dependable.

So see? In these days of so much unemployment, I have a job and as long as I work, so does Mark. We are rebuilding America one panel at a time.

Have a great weekend with your sweeties!

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (The cat who loves you guys!)

Laugh of the Day?

Seems Joe the Plumber has a new gig. Nope, not a country singer. Nope not a plumber. Now he is a war correspondent. Don’t believe me? Check it out.

Decisions, Decisions

Today I have a choice. I can stay here at home alone until Wednesday afternoon or I can ride shotgun with Mr. Pop as he heads up Daytona way for meetings. Let’s see, stay here all alone, eating and sleeping alone, or spend two and a half days with Mr. Pop in a wonderful little hotel with a fantastic restaurant next door that has the best menu and the best tiramisu I have ever tasted. Plus their martinis are excellent.

Decision made! See you guys back here Wednesday or Thursday!

Welcome, Year 2009

Fred the Cat here and nice to meet you, Year 2009. We sure have been looking forward to seeing you. Your relative, Year 2008, wasn’t so nice and we didn’t mind one bit seeing it go.

I hope you brought patience with you and a lot of persistence, because you’re going to need it. You are also going to need a lot of help from everyone if you are going to be successful. We all want to be happy again and if we work together, we just might make it happen.

The good news is that in just a few days you will have some special help. You’ll have our new President working with you. He brings with him hope and change. This is the kind of hope and change that none of the last eight Years have had. They had a president fighting against goodness all along the way.

So come right in, Year 2009. We at the Pop home are so happy to see you at last. Oh, and one more thing before you get to work on the big stuff. Could you bring a new dog to our home during your term here? We would so appreciate that favor.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (The cat who loves you guys!)
