Welcome, Year 2009
Fred the Cat here and nice to meet you, Year 2009. We sure have been looking forward to seeing you. Your relative, Year 2008, wasn’t so nice and we didn’t mind one bit seeing it go.
I hope you brought patience with you and a lot of persistence, because you’re going to need it. You are also going to need a lot of help from everyone if you are going to be successful. We all want to be happy again and if we work together, we just might make it happen.
The good news is that in just a few days you will have some special help. You’ll have our new President working with you. He brings with him hope and change. This is the kind of hope and change that none of the last eight Years have had. They had a president fighting against goodness all along the way.
So come right in, Year 2009. We at the Pop home are so happy to see you at last. Oh, and one more thing before you get to work on the big stuff. Could you bring a new dog to our home during your term here? We would so appreciate that favor.

happy new year fred and the pops- keeping my fingers crossed that at the very least 2009 will see the start of the reinstatement of some of our civil liberties. it's the eternal optimist in me :)

Santa Paws came our way, but must have left some lame catnip, 'cause the kitties were uninspired. Go figure.
