Why?

Just one simple question. After our tax dollars were given to the banks to thaw credit, why couldn’t the big three auto companies get loans from those banks instead of asking for their own tax payer bridge loan or bailout? Am I missing something here?

Yes. It's a shakedown.

No - you are not missing anything at all.

Of course those same banks might actually use some of the largesse they were shown, to homeowners in foreclosure....

Nah!

pop- you just need to suspend logic here :) it gets you into trouble :) my personal thought is that bushco took advantage and decided to go all out and loot the treasury. hence, paulson and his cronies get the bailout money- and the rest of us get left holding the tab.

There is nothing in saving the auto companies for Bush and company(GOP). There is a lot to be had by raiding the treasury and giving it to Wall Street. Simple greed. Oh! and there is the bonus of busting the unions which is just icing on the cake.

Yeah. You're the taxpayer. Your pockets are bottomless. Why not just give more of your money way?

Well, you see, it's like this.

The banks were given bailout money - banks like Bank of America, for instance - and supposedly that was to free up credit, but instead they are using the money to buy out OTHER banks who are failing... (See also: Republic Doors and Windows)

Because, ya see, there are not any CONDITIONS attached to the money - because .... well, I'm not sure because why. Because the government is stupid? Maybe?

Simple....the banks have better lobbyists than the automakers.

Sure you're missing something. So am I and every other taxpayer--we're missing our money, our futures, our quality of life...

...that would make sense, wouldn't it?
I for one think the banks should have filed for chapter 11 and the automakers be bailed out. Having worked for a company that was a tier 3 supplier to the Big 3, the trickle affect if they go under would be devastating. really..

Why are they trying to make America believe its a bailout or they cease to exist? Did I miss bankruptcy protection while they sort things out??
