Gimme that book!

President-elect Obama, give me that book of yours because I want to take a page out of it. I want to behave like an adult when it comes to political thinking. I want to look ahead seriously rather than waste time fighting petty fights.

I am completely tired of reading and hearing that the “change” hasn’t come, that this person or that person is a bad choice. I just refuse to get involved in all that. I am determined to take that page from Obama’s book and try my level best to let it be my guide when I am tempted to wander off the beaten path and try to fight all the fights. My change has already arrived and now, like our future president, I am going to try and pick my battles instead of allowing them to pick at me.

It’s the holiday season and as far as I’m concerned we have already received the best present we have gotten for the last eight years. Forgive me if I just bask in that thought for a little while longer. Right now, this is my no-fight zone

I am with you. I posted on this too.

Obama will not be perfect but let the guy take office.

Who the fuck is he supposed to appoint? People with no experience or connections?

It is politics people, pay attention.

If you look for nuance, something that we have sadly lacked for 8 years, he is doing this very wisely with a mix of all kinds of people.

For good or ill, Clinton people will get shit done. Period.

And unlike Clinton himself - who I think got sucked into the ego and power vacuum, I think Obama will be on top of what is going on and direct his people to do what needs to be done for all.

Sheesh, I can't stand all of this. It is the stuff of GOP wet dreams, watching the left stuff itself on this pre-inauguration blather from the embittered portion of liberals who feel so angry towards Obama.

Rant over.

Great post, PoP--took the words right out of my mouth.

Last night on NPR, I had to listen to some idiot who supposedly represents me and my brown people asking why it took so long to appoint a hispanic person. Who the eff else is there to choose from? The Linda Chavezes of the world are too young and inexperienced. So the guy picked his defense/foreign relations team first--if he hadn't, people would be saying, "he's soft on defense!"

Give it a rest, people. Change ain't comin' overnight. It's gonna take a while, and it's gonna take some people who've gotten their hands dirty, and who know how to get shit done.

I really don't care who he nominates as long as they aren't part of the crew that got us into this mess in the first place.

I also don't expect Obama to magically fix stuff. We're going to have to do a lot of the heavy lifting ourselves.

What I DO expect Obama to do is stop using the power of the federal government to harm the citizens of this country. Everything past that will be gravy in my book.

Good post, PoP!

Fran rightly says "Who the fuck is he supposed to appoint? People with no experience or connections?"

Exactly!! When we look at all the unqualified cronies Bush employed during the last eight years... people like (gasp) Karen Hughes, or Brownie, or like when he nomintated Harriet Myers... scheise.

Seeing a swift, so-far-well-executed transition with people who actually have some experience and qualifications to fill the positions? Priceless!

I also plan to wallow in this a bit more. Such a thing is a nice gift for all Americans. I think that in a few years, many of today's naysayers will look back on this and realize how positive this time was. They might not realize today how much things are heading in a positive direction, but I hope they will eventually see that having competent people running the show, regardless of their party affiliation, will make things go more smoothly for our country.

Obama will have a lot of egos to keep pumped up and will probably have to soothe ruffled feathers fairly often with this bunch, but I expect he can manage the crew just like he managed his campaign. I think he will be able to get the best out of all of them.

Let the FOX types harp on Clinton and Daschle as much as they want, that kind of b.s. is old hat at this point. They will do whatever they can to make Obama look bad, we all know that. But I think FOX "News"-viewing and Rush Limbaugh-listening are habits that can be cured, and the way to get there is for the new administration to... well... not screw up.

And I don't think they are going to screw up. They are going to lead by example, and show America how things get done. It will be a pleasure to see!

I see where you have picked up a couple of Trolls, PoP.

While certainly not wanting to "feed" them - I would like to respectfully ask Uncle G. and the other snarky sore-losers:

Who do YOU think would bring about positive, helpful, country-wide, hell, even WORLDWIDE change that would be a better choice than those whom Mr. Obama has chosen thus far? Seriously. No "gotcha" intended. Who do you realistically think would be good choices?

Or do you just want to blither on and whine and gripe because you didn't get your pony for Xmas?

great post, PoP--
for weeks, I've been seeing people gripe about how 'little' Obama has gotten done thus far. and, several times, I've responded, begging them to let the man get inaugurated before they start tearing him limb from limb.

my actual preference would be that they let him govern for a while first. but, hey, I know better than to ask for the moon.

Obama was the right vote for me. No regrets or buyer's remorse there. But he needs to deliver on the change he promised during his campaign. He doesn't have to tackle all the issues at once for me, and how he delivers on his promises (and who he picks to make it happen) is of no concern to me...now. I agree, we do need to borrow a page from his book in terms of being an adult. We also need to borrow the page that allows for healthy critique. I'm confident he'll listen to his constituency.
