Maybe I’m a little slow on the upswing, but I noticed something this past weekend. There are no big tents up around here. The big tents that would pop up about every five miles along US1. This is where they sold Christmas trees and outdoor Christmas lawn decorations. In the past these big tents popped up just after Thanksgiving. There are none to be found this year. Even Home Depot and Lowes have fewer trees for sale than they have in the past. Also, both those stores have a lot less in the way of Christmas decorations and such than they usually have. The little kid in me always enjoyed just looking at all that “shiny stuff”.
Is it just in my neck of the woods, or have you guys noticed this sort of thing where you live? I wonder about the people who farm Christmas trees, is this financial mess taking them down too? I guess no one is safe now from the Great 2008 Financial Grinch.

I live in an area that has some tree farms, so we went and cut down our own tree from a local place. The woman who owns it is someone I know and they do a great job of re-seeding so the huge property is a series of patches of trees from teeny tiny and just growing, to almost there, to amazing glory.
We don't really have places by the road so much, but someone I know told me that some group, the Lion's Club or something is not selling trees from a parking lot this year as it was not making money the past few years, so you may be onto something.
I was in Home Depot and Loew's last night for something else, but they did have trees.
As I have assiduously avoided all shopping of late I have no idea what is in the stores.
