Carpet Potato

Martini will never be a couch potato in front of the TV because he doesn’t jump up on the furniture. But he is a carpet potato because he truly watches TV. Often when I sit on the carpet in the bedroom and play toys with him he will eventually become tired and curl up beside me to watch TV. You can tell by what he does with his ears that he is reacting to the sound or the movement of the picture.

But here’s where it gets funny. The TV is sitting on a table that’s about thirty some inches high. If Martini sees something on the screen that he is curious about, most recently it was penguins, he goes over to the TV, stands up on his back legs making himself about twelve inches high and he follows the movement of the animal on the show from one side of the TV screen to the other, back and forth. He can stand and walk like this for about 45 seconds at a time then he has to stand down and start over again.

Watching him from behind is funny as hell. This little dog standing as tall as he possibly can watching intently some creature he is so curious about and trying like crazy to catch its scent. When the scene ends, he drops his ears down and comes back to snuggle beside me. There are times when I can almost imagine him saying to me, “What the hell was that thing?”
