Let’s go see what’s in the gutters along the street

It’s a bone chilling cold morning in Washington DC. Grab your warmest wraps, we’re going for a walk on the streets of the city. Hold onto your wraps the wind is blowing like a winter hurricane. Little eddies of wind are forming at the corners of the brick buildings. The drainage gutters are clogged with yesterday’s news. What do we find on the frozen grates of the gutters? What is stopping the flow?

Look, here’s one thing that’s down in the gutter. Oh this is especially dirty and smelly. It’s Bob Novak’s career and here’s Judy Miller’s too. Here’s something labeled “The truth”. We haven’t seen that for a long time, have we? We better hold on to that. I believe that’s something we could use, don’t you? Oh my goodness, what are these old yellowed pieces of paper? Sadly they appear to be parts of the Constitution. It looks as though they have been ripped out and tossed away. Here’s the part that pertains to privacy. We’ve been looking for that. Maybe we can paste it back into the original. There is so much here in this pile of discards that I’m not sure we’ll ever clean them all out. I think we must try if we ever want to see the unfettered flow of clear information again. We’ll save what’s worth saving. Oh look! There in the gutter, it’s FOX news. Don’t touch that. That sort of thing is comprised of organic matter, you know. It’ll just decay and flush down and away.

Aren’t you glad you wrapped up and protected yourself against the cold before we went on this bone-chilling walk? But don’t you think it was worth it if we can restore truth and the Constitution? As for Novak’s and Miller’s careers, they are no longer clogging the flow, but it’s up to them to get them back out of the gutter.

Let’s go back home now. Let’s go back where we are comfortable and warm. And, let’s keep the truth and the Constitution grasped firmly in our hands forever. We must never allow these to be discarded again. It’s amazing what we found today in the cold blustery streets and gutters of Washington. Maybe we should check those gutters more often.

Hmm, what else is down in there? ::looks::

Ah, here's what looks like - yes, yes, it's the collected testicles and spines of the Senate Democrats. Someone had better tag them for return to the owners, but don't touch. Biohazards, you know.

And there's the Reputation of the Entire Bush Family. I thought that had hit the sewage-treatment plant by now ...

Oh my, didn't they hock the Constitution and the stars and stripes for their "war-on-terror?" How did they end up in the gutter? I suppose China didn't have a use for them - but they are about to strangle America from all the debt chits they are collecting as they loan shark the Iraq conflagration.

Dear One, I think you made a typo in your wonderful post.
Don't you mean "As for Novak's and Miller's careers, it is up to them to get them back up to the level of the gutter."
I mean really, they started there. I'm not sure what the name of where they sank to is (sewer seems too tame a word)!
Beautiful Blog, I'm glad I found you again!

Part of the problem is that we all return to the warmth of our homes. There's always re-runs of Seinfeld to make us laugh, Lost to entertain us, and 24 to tantilize us.

With so much stimulation it is very easy to forget how much Bush is fucking us up the ass.

It is too easy to go home, close the door, turn on the boob tube, and pretend nothing bad is happening.

I look out my window; it's a sunny day here in So Cal. It's quiet. I can hear the low hum of electric trimmers off in the distance.

I'm watching TV while cruising the blogosphere.

It's hard to remember that people are dying in Iraq. I feel free so it's hard to grasp how much Bush has eroded our freedoms.

Unfortunately, until the chaos hits our doorstep (like it did the people in the Gulf Coast) most of us won't think anything is too terribly wrong.

And what is unfortunate about that is that by the time it hits all of our doorsteps, it will be too late.

When you begin to hear that your neighbors, friends, and family have disappeared never to be seen again...It will be too late.

And the propaganda on the TV will only get more convincing.

Hey all, I suggest you visit over at Neil Shakespeare's location today. He has a nice reminder posted with Jessica Simpson salute to the Happy Third Birthday of the Iraq War. That's a reminder enough, no?

Thanks for stopping by my place. Shuttwi approves. I approve of a morning martini, my favorite drink, although in the winter up her it's more like Wild Turkey & seltzer, which I'm enjoying now. It certainly helped with the tour of the gutter. Thanks again & I'll be seeing you.

Great post, my dear. Isn't it sad though, when we here seem to be the only ones who care that so much of America's reputation lies buried under piles of detritus in that gutter? Shame on every plugged in Washington politico for letting it get this way; from president to reporter - they all added to the slime.

Nice piece PoP.

Any chance we could go on another trip to look for honor & decency? I'd sure like to find them too.
