Here’s our Deal. Are you listening Democratic Congress People?

Dear every Democratic congress person who doesn’t support Senator Feingold’s call for censure.

Why the hell not? Why are you afraid to step up?

Are you afraid it will make you look weak on defense? Forget that, because there is so much more at stake here than appearances. We’re talking about the future of our country. We’re talking about the rights that the Constitution promises the citizens of the United States. See? We don’t give a damn about how you look, we do give a damn about what soldiers have fought and died for in previous wars. They died so that we could be free and live in a democracy. Those were brave people who were willing to give their lives. Aren’t you brave enough to step up now for the same cause?

For god’s sake stand up, admit you trusted the word of the President of the United States when you voted to support the war but now you see that you were misled. Damn, how hard is that? Others have done it, why can’t you?

We aren’t buying your mantra of having to look into whether the wiretaps were legal. You know they weren’t. We know they weren’t. The president hid the program because he knew they weren’t. Are you willing to give this president who fooled you into supporting this disastrous war any and every authority he wants? Even after he has made you look foolish, you still support what he’s doing? Have you lost your mind? Don’t you see the danger here? Don’t you understand what the hell this will do for his authority?

To borrow a line from this president, when you step up, we’ll stand down. We mean it. When you step up and support Senator Feingold’s call for censure, we’ll shut up. But for now we aren’t going away. Well, if you don’t step up, we will go away from you at the voting booth. But, for now we’re going to keep on bugging you. And I don’t mean in an NSA sort of way. We adhere to the laws of our country. We respect your privacy so we’re going to talk to you in public and we’ll talk loud.

Karl Rove has his little word out now that you guys are “angry”. Rove has no idea how angry we are because you guys aren’t angrier. For heavens sake, you have every reason to be mad as hell. In fact I can give you over 2300 flagged draped coffin reasons. We are at war because someone cooked the intelligence, sexed it up, and it was force fed to you. That doesn’t make you angry?

What’s more important, your reelection or the future of our country? We know, do you? One day you will be gone from the political arena but you have a chance today to do something that will change the outlook for future generations. You can do something that will take our country back from lawlessness to a country of laws that apply to all its citizens. Don’t you owe your kids and their kids that much? Isn’t it time to be statesmen and women instead of just politicians?

So here’s our deal. You support Sen. Feingold and on election day and we’ll support you. If you don’t support him, then you might as well change your party affiliation. What you’re telling us is that you are more concerned about protecting yourself than you are about protecting the Constitution. That sure says a lot.

Harry S. Truman is alive and well! Give 'em hell, PoP!

I'm going to print your posting and send it to the Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid. He's responsible for setting the tone in the senate with Democrats.

If you agree with PoP's point here and you're reading this comment, why not do the same?

Thanks, PoP.

Angry? How can such wimps and cowards be angry? There's not an ounce of rage or courage in 'em as far as I can see.

I've been disappointed. Right now Feingold is one of the few democrats in the senate who's showing any kind of leadership.

I recently wrote to Reid, asking him why he hasn't made good on his promise to continually invoke Senate Rule 21 and shut the chamber down until the Fascisti start finding out who lied where and how many times to get us into Iraq.

Haven't heard back from him yet.

Bravo! Once again, this should be in every newspaper as I think you say so eloquently what we are thinking. These Dems are totally useless; just taking up space.

I'm so with you on this. I'm starting to feel like there are just Republicrats and Russ. Maybe it's time to resurrect the People's Party. They supported laborers and fought for the working man.

We watched the episode of Jon when he showed the red and shamed faces of Democrats while Feingold read the censure. I'm beginning to loathe them. Finally, someone stood up and acted on what is obviously wrong, and I didn't see one of them look like they supported them. Shame on them all.

PoP,
CLAP, CLAP!!
Saw D. Feinstein on Larry King the other night and someone called in and asked her why the Dems don't speak up. Of course, she meekly said..."oh, but we are speaking up". Yeah right.....and I'm the Jolly Green Giant!
(well..I am almost 5 ft. tall) :)

Bravo! Well said!

And thanks for stopping by and posting on my Feingold verse post today. And yes, it seems I was vacationing in your neck of the woods -- South Beach, Miami. We try to go down there once a year --a great combination of beautiful beaches and nightlife.

I'm not trying to cause friction, just wondering why so many people hate the Dems and yet won't go to the Green party? The Green party's platform very often echoes their own beliefs.

Isn;t there irony to talking about how the Dems 'tow the line' and yet, registered voters do too? why SHOULD they care what you want? They know you will never switch over, far left won;t go Republican and they know come election day you will be too afraid of numbers NOT to vote Democrat.

If people don't vote their conscience, why will the Dems who take your vote for granted?

Really, POP, by now you know me and I only ask because I sincerely want to know, not because I am being critical. I am just curious about this thinking. I am not a registered Democrat and will not be until they stop acting like repubocrats. I have said this for a long time.

They have NO REASON to answer to their supporters. The center is the only piece up for grabs.

Lily, I have been giving a great deal of thought to that very thing. I've been tempted before but now I am seriously considering it.

I can't vote, but I'm with you 100 martinis worth!

For Christ sake, it won't even get him out of office, just slap him a little once on the side of his smirk.

I would be telling my Dem politician to check the friggin polls if that's how he works - even stuck-on-the-fence voters support this one.

Sheesh..

My only problem is that the poor dearie deserves more than a frownie face on his paper, he deserves a full "time-out" on the federal penitentiary naughty stool!
It IS supposed to be illegal. And I seem to recall something about a "high crime" in the constitution.
But that's just my ratty old copy, not the new "jazzed up" copy that Mr. Rove carries around with him.
That reminds me, though. Tomorrow I need to find out how my Dino Senators are voting on this one.
One would think a Democratic Senator from Arkansas would jump at the chance to vote on this, but then again, one would think that Bush would have some shame.

PoP, nice rant. But I am in favor of impeachment over censure. Even so, censure is a step in the right direction.

Blog on sister.

Yeah...IMPEACHMENT over censure...but he needs to be put in the stocks in the middle of D.C. and pelted with placards of the names of dead soldiers and dead innocent Iraqis until he gets the message. That should take a while.

PoP, you've hit the nail right on the head (now if someone could just hit the DC "nails"...).

May I reprint your post over at my place? I'll credit you, of course, PLUS, as an extra bonus, you could wind up with an additional 2-3 visits!

Oh, and the coffee's running low. Hope you don't mind that I made a fresh pot.
