The Olympics

Since we cats are not much into games and such, I’ve a question for you.
Are you excited about the Olympics?
Less excited than you usually are about them?
Or do you just not care?

Have a great weekend and get as much rest as you can.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)

considering i work in the place that is broadcasting them - i better be interested

but i am sort of not, like everything else they have come to be just about money

while some of the thrill is still there, much of it is not.

i would rather watch you fred, do a flip on the parallel bars

Stick with the catnaps, Fred, they're more exciting.

i haven't been interested in the olympics well, ever- with the exception of lilihammer because of dave letterman's mom. i am not a big sports fan anyway. several years ago, hubby and i started to watch monday night football so we would have something to talk to people about. we were faithful for several years but over the last couple- we haven't paid attention. now with favregate going on- i am even less interested.

Considering the human rights record of the host country, and how the whole thing seems to be one big propaganda stunt akin to the 36 games in Berlin, I think I'll just ignore it.

Um, NFL preseason is underway. The Olympics are about 179,354 on the priority list.

I have a familial interest in the games: my kid sister is on the US Synchronized Swim team. The Russians have pretty much got a lock on the gold while the Japanese stand a very good chance for the silver so the bronze is up for grabs among the US, Canadian, Chinese and Spanish teams.

I just hope she has a good time. She walked in the Opening Ceremony last night so I'll be watching for her tonight when its televsied.

The olympics are just about as corrupt as our fed govt - I won't be watching.

Considering the behaviours of the government of the hosting country, I could care less -- even if I were dead. More pomp and circumstance and money changers run amuck.

Fred, I'm looking forward to watching the USA basketball team play and hoping for a gold medal. Why? Because I went to Las Vegas recently to see my son and he took us to the first exhibition game against Canada. There was some real basketball talent out there on the court, and seeing them in person has made all the difference in seeing them in the Olympics. I've always been interested in seeing the best talent in any of the sports. I tune out when it all becomes about how many medals each country has because that's not what the Olympics are all about for me. It's individual and team merit. Not country merit.

I'm looking forward to the Olympics, but some athletes are having trouble breathing, which is very troubling.

To celebrate, everyone should go to their favorite Japanese Steakhouse,

..then do some introspective meditation at a Buddhist Temple.

...and read some of the Dalai Lama writings...

...practice some dissentive political blogging (you do that well, PoP)...

...leave your chopsticks is the bowl......

Fred
You look more enthusiastic than I am. I just want to hear whether or not something happens there because I expect it. Bush and Putin are there while Georgia is blowing and US help is being asked for meaning?

I might turn it on -- because Jake likes to watch active tv still [he's at that age: kitten- going- on- cat].
he still looks in mirrors, too.

I used to like em -- till I was in my 20's or so. then, I began recognizing the propaganda for what it was.

Well. Maw comes and goes. She had no interest, then she became interested with all the hype on the internet news stations. Then she's like $40 billion in expenditures? And then she's like, well let's see what the athletes are doing. So, whatever.

As for us, we're SO NOT INTERESTED.

If you added a few events that involve chasing birds I'm pretty sure you could get the interest level up, at least among cats.

I'd still be tuned out.

Since you asked:

the only time I read anything about the olympics is about a tourist getting killed there. Another tragedy.

Nope...not really into the Olympics.

They'll be here, in Vancouver in 2010... and there's construction everywhere to 'makeover' the city in the meantime. It's a lot of money and big ado about nothing in my opinion.

Did I mention that in the midst of spending billions of dollars for the preparation for the Olympics, we shut down 3 pediatric wards in hospitals due to LACK OF FUNDING.

Go figure.

Everyone makes a big deal about the propoganda and the politics and your right. The games as a whole have become way to commercial.

That being said, I love to watch the games. The majority of the competition is played by people who have trained their whole lives for this moment and are out their to prove themselves the best in the world. It's played for the purest of reasons. For love of the game.

I didn't watch the opening ceremonies for the reasons posted but I will watch the games.

Just something to think about.

Jaliya (human): Sad to say, I've never been less interested; I think the athletics have been obscured by the politics; the hypocracies of this Games are revolting. Can't see much, anyway, for all the corporate logos.

Vida (feline): Yo. I won't watch any Olympics 'til cats are included. What about Bottlecap Soccer, Freeform Fly-Catching, Litterbox Football, or Furball Toss?

I won't watch. I decided not to when the IOC picked Beijing. How much more killing in the streets and oppression does a government need to do to make the IOC refuse their bribes? I'm reminded of the Hitler Olympics. No thanks.
