Contrast

If you wanted to see just one contrast in the candidates this week you had to look no farther than Monday. McCain was running around squealing, drill now and handing out little tire gauges that had the words, “Obama’s Energy Plan” printed on them. Meanwhile Sen. Obama gave a very comprehensive speech about energy. He outlined where he wanted to take our country and how he planned to do it. He challenged us to move forward with him toward a goal. He admitted his plan might require some compromise and explained that in the end, if we all do our parts, we will all benefit.

So which candidate do you want in the white house? The one with a supposed “quick fix” and a gimmick or the one with a forward moving detailed plan?

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would want to actually vote for McCain. He seems to demonstrate daily so many reasons why they shouldn’t.

For a treat, watch this.

Not only was he running around looking like a crotchety altzheimers patient, Paris Hilton came out with a rebuttal that was not only hot ;) it was witty and sly and made him look the fool that he is.

Because Obama is an effete fancy boy. Oh, and black.

I love the idea of McCain handing out things with Obama's name on them!!!

It is so counterintuitive and just perfect marketing.

For Obama!

McCain tells us: Americans are too stupid and lazy to keep their vehicles properly maintained. Give them more cheap gas so we don't have too worry about such things.

Obama tells us there is an easy, inexpensive way to save energy, but we need to educate people and change their ways.

All I see from McCain is continuing the same policies that are now failing the U.S.

8 Years of Republican President: War, Debt, Economic Mess

"fill your tires with air"!...that's a detailed plan? And just which plan of Obama's do you mean...the one where he said no drilling, all alternative fuels, or his latest.."well, okay, some drilling"...which I expect by next week will be "hey, I got a great idea...let's drillin ANWR"

well, if cindy wins 'miss buffalo chip' we can use her as a fossil fuel :)

and anonymous, we should have had a decent energy plan under oh- nixon, or carter, or reagan, or bush 1,- i mean the government has known since the 1970's that there was global warming and peak oil. they hushed it up to make a profit. and so here we are- cleaning up the mess for rethuglicans- again.

Fran is spot on - they keep handing out stuff with Obama all over it, and that's a Wall Street sales no-no. Don't advertise your competitor.

Which tells you how well McCain't would govern. Pffft.

Obama got it, but America is anti-intellectual and distrustful of those who can plan and articulate (or read) and has rarely supported the "smart guy." McCain is working off Bush's "I'm dumb" strategy. It worked for him, being the everyman kind of guy.

I really liked Obama's response. He called them liars, he called them shallow and ignorant, and he was laughing at them the whole time.

What McCain should've said: "Drill here, drill now! See a difference maybe in ten years! Or not! Of course not! But make Dick Cheney even richer!" What an idiot.

And still the yapping heads on television mock Obama. They don't do one iota of research and then they parrot this McCain bullshit. No wonder our fellow citizens are so uninformed.

betmo and dguzman:
need i remind you that in 1998 a certain President refused to allow drilling for oil in ANWR, partly on the grounds that we would not see any oil in 10 years...check your calendar...think that oil would be helpful now?
We need a policy that bridges the gap between all oil now and alternative later...let's expand our oil supply (and we are not at "peak oil" yet)while also expanding research into VIABLE alternatives

As usual Obama came up with some really good ideas and McCain is running around making fun of them. Nick is right, if Americans could maintain their vehicles and use some common sense they'd all save gas.

Jon Stewart had a good riff last night about McCain and the energy/drilling thing.

The Wall Street Journal had a ridiculous Op Ed piece the other day saying that the reason we consume so much oil isn't because Americans are wasteful but that our economy is doing well. Huh?? So because our economy is doing well people HAVE to have Lincoln Navigators that get 8 miles to the gallon? That's REQUIRED? Give me a break.
