Gov. Charlie Crist loves his new flip flops

On May 15th of this year I wrote here about my fears that higher gas prices would result in less concern for our country’s environment. My fears appear to be coming true.

McCain, Bush and now the governor of my state are calling for off shore drilling. Governor Charlie Crist only days ago said he was adamantly against drilling off the coast of Florida. Today he’s all for it. He’s basically saying, to hell with what I said before, I’ll happily sell my freakin’ soul for the republican party and a shot at being the vice president of the United States.

What do you call someone who goes back on their word for personal gain? What do you call someone who puts their own ambitions before the good of their state? I call that person a typical republican politician. Oh yeah, and a total SOB.

I'm so surprised that a governor of Florida could so ignore his major industry(tourism at the beach) that he could threaten it by allowing offshore drilling. What a Douche.

Total SOB is right. I haven't hated him until now, because he has seemed fairly moderate, but now he is just throwing the entire state to the oil industry.

Does he really think he has a shot? He is an unmarried, middle aged man with fairly feminine characteristics and he thinks they will let him run on the republican ticket? Not unless he produces 5 or 10 bastard children before November.

Better to have illegitimate children than be rumored to be gay if you are a republican

They obviously think they've seen THE issue of the campaign--gas prices. They believe Americans, so freaked out by $4+/gallon gas, will let them drill right into Old Faithful, Mount Rushmore, or their grandma's still-beating heart if it means lower gas prices.

All we have is this: the sincere hope that the majority of Americans cannot be bought so cheaply, and that they are smart enough to know that none of this would make a damned bit of difference because the oil companies will STILL screw us raw for their precious profits.

By the government's own estimates, the price reduction would be just a few cents/gallon and would take years. Even if they started today, we wouldn't see that gas for years and the saving would be negligible. These are the facts that need to be widely publicized.

On the other hand, people are driving a LOT LESS this year, and that's a good thing.

The proper term PoP is that he is a liar and a cad. A man without the strength of his convictions.

my parents who live in Broward County can never say enough horrible things about Charlie Crist -- and now this...

it is probably driving my father crazy.

drilling offshore is BAD on so many levels - and it wouldnt even produce one drop of oil for YEARS!

crist is a total horse's ass who probably (and hopefully) just dug his grave in florida. he had NO chance of the veep slot (read leftleaninglady above -- those rumors would shoot to the top of the Hit List) and now he is alienating his own people --- there are people who suck up and then there is charlie crist ---

i thought there was a limit to my disdain of the republican party -- i see there isnt

WWCD? How very Cristlike.

Oil prices are going to bust soon, so there's no need to start the panic drilling.
What we need to do is get all career repuglycan politicos out of office, and keep them out, for about 30 or 40 years.

I'd like to see one of these jerks admit that it's time to close the Enron Loop Hole! If they are so serious about lowering prices, then they should get busy changing the law! Oh wait, I forgot Phil Gramm is on McCain's team, the same guy who wrote the law...

Unfortunately, there is so much indignation over gas prices that, I fear, people will overlook any facts in favor of the belief that if we just keep drilling the oil will just keep being there -- indefinitely.

What I love about this is that IF they get offshore drilling we will never see a price drop in gas for many reason (years to develop fields because of exploration for one) but it will provide more profits for the energy companies.
As far as Crist is concerned this is just a ploy to suck McCain's you-know-what and secure the VP slot.

I agree with Randal... he will make a great VP candidate. McCain would probably rather have a young, scary religious fundamentalist like Bobby Jindal (perish that thought) but hopefully he will end up with someone less appealing, like Crist.

I would rather spell it "Christ", so bumper stickers would say "McCain/Christ 08".

Well golly gee, doesn't everybody know that higher fuel prices are the democrats' fault, and that the evil Al Gore, their ringleader, is the one stopping all the honest and noble oilmen from drilling hither and yon?

Is it November yet?
