Truthfulness Challenged?

Lets say that I post a story that tells you that ten years ago I was going to the food market and when I arrived there I was caught in the middle of a gang fight. Bullets were flying everywhere and I had to run from my car to the market door under fire from the gang members.

Okay, but you being the wise person that you are, you locate the security camera tapes from that market that particular day and discover there was no gang fight there that day. You also discover that I have never been caught in a gang fight. Would you accept that I made a “mistake” when I told my story, or would you call it something else?

Senator Clinton said she made a “mistake” when she said her plane landed under fire in Bosnia. She said she misspoke. Sure, anyone can make a mistake but if Senator Clinton never landed anywhere in a plane that was under fire, how can this be a simple case of misspeaking?

In my own opinion when someone tells a story this far from the truth it calls for a stronger word than “mistake”.

Apparently she has told the story numerous times over the years, including in a book, and it always was accurate, until she mentioned it this time, when it suddenly changed totally.

I'd say she is characterizing it correctly- it was a mistake. But the mistake was that she was trying to pull a whopper of a lie out of her ass at a politically convenient time and hoping nobody would notice.

One would surely remember if they had to duck gunfire during their lifetime, and they surely wouldn't "misspeak" at least 4 times on it.

call a LIE a LIE

even her "taking back" and admitting a mis-statement is a crock.

she knows this will just pass under the bridge and she moved on to trashing obama again.

i really cannot stomach this woman.

OMG. She mislead us.

Another politician misleading us? Is anyone surprised? That's what they excel in. Democrats or Republicans.

Your right. Call it a mistake, and what your doing to correct this.

Mistake is a word that is foriegn to our current leader, also, and it describes just about everything he has done while President.

I continue to be amazed at how little flack the MSM is giving her for this; she seems willing to say just about anything without any regard to it's truthfulness if it furthers her agenda. Too bad that she seems to be using the Rove playbook; I had expected more from her.

But what truly astounds me is that she continues to try to use the Rev Wright incident to facilitate her mudslinging, since her involvement with the conservative religious group "The Family" seems far worse.

Well I could say something like "I did not have sex with that plane under fire!!" but it is soooooo 90's and such.

Anyway, this is big and bad for her. Really is.

I think my friend Paul had an interesting take, but that was the other day. I think that he really calls into question her whole experience tack that she takes as she tries to discredit Obama.

Although I guess all that big politickin' gave her the experience she needs to really lie frequently and well.

And then to call it something else.

It's amazing all the crap that gets said and done by knucklehead politicians of every stripe (including many who should be wearing stripes but aren't - I'm looking at you Chimpy and Darth, for starters) but the word "lie" is rarely, if ever, uttered. I mean, this is just like that time I outran Carl Lewis. Sheesh.

I don't have TV right now, so I get the news from the papers (slow) and the web (kinda fast, when my computer works). The thing I don't get is the constant visceral outrage of TV news, even TV news that isn't on Fox.

Ever since McCain said we could afford to be in Iraq for another 50 to 100 years, I haven't needed much more "news" to help me vote. Whether it's Obama or Clinton now, and I hope it's Obama, they have some nasty metaphorical scars, but McCain has nasty real scars and bad looking real teeth. Expect the shot the Huffington Post used of him to be the template.

It’s just bazaar that someone who is constantly in the public eye (and the political cross-hairs) would embellish on any event in her life. Maybe it is a Freudian compulsion to sabotage one’s own success. I can’t imagine that someone that bright would think it would be overlooked.

THIS bugs me a helluva lot more than her padding this Kosovo story and lying about it.

That man is an animal. What he did to President Clinton (Arkansas Project, etc.) is unforgivable. Jesus - he literally accused Hillary of murder and there she is sharing coffee with the guy.

I mean wtf?

I'm incredibly disappointed by this latest blunder on her part. I just don't know how much worse this can get for her--but I still don't like Obama any better, and I'll still vote for Clinton in our primary next month. She obviously got caught up in the moment and, feeling insecure, jazzed up her story. Wrong? Yes. Stupid? Yes. But I never stopped liking Bill Clinton even after his wrong and stupid acts either.

I do take offense to people who pull out the "playing by the Rove playbook" thing, though. They ALL lie, and the media ignores ALL of it unless they feel like "reporting" on it for ten seconds on a slow "news" day. So she's not doing anything that any other politicians haven't done. Obama's thrown out plenty of whoppers too.

Seriously, She is trying to divert attention from the fact that she got caught Lying again by digging at Obama again. Enigma has an interesting video she found about the liar!
I hate liars and sadly today lying is the new truth! Bush has set the underhanded lie to get what you want standard and then when caught just say gee I was misquoted or misinterpreted or something.
Hillary has learned well from Bush and Bill. We can't let her near the White House again and I don't think its a danger.
She is such a two faced liar. It seems to be a requirement to get into Politics today. It is sick!

It's funny that she calls it "misspeaking". Unfortunately, that's complete bullshit.

Misspeaking is when you say you'll have the pepperoni pizza when you meant to say 'plain' or when you call an acquaintance the wrong name.

What Hillary did is called LYING by the rest of us.

You know, PoP, I just looked at this post again after finishing my comment on your latest post, and I realized--just how often does anyone in this lousy excuse for a "free press" actually take the time or money to do that research, to be that "wise person that you are, you locate the security camera tapes from that market that particular day and discover there was no gang fight there that day"?

she misspoke by saying something that wasn't true.
she made a mistake by hoping no one would notice.

Yeah. And to imply that we should break ties with all with whom we disagree? Come on! Relationships are a two-way street -- even relationships between pastors and parishioners (or whatever). It's why I don't fire my right-wing homophobic nutjob handyman: if I walk away from him, how will he ever learn anything from me?????

How's she going to be any good at foreign policy if her the way she would cope with offensive, anti-American people is to walk away from them?

Miss you PoP!
