Other than the military’s invasion of Iraq, could our government have done anything worse than allowing security firms, unfettered by laws or rules, to run roughshod over the Iraqis?
Imagine all hell breaking loose in your neighborhood and instead of the police being called in to help, one of these security firms shows up and takes over, unfettered by laws or rules. What would you do?

I would do the same thing that they are doing.....resistance to the occupation.
And that's what it is, an occupation.
Hmmm...what kind of "all hell" are we talking about here? And are these security firm guys immune to the allure of coffee and donuts? Because if it's just a sort of mild but annoying "all hell" that's broken loose, and the security guys are vulnerable to coffee and donuts, I'd probably just invite everyone inside for some coffee and donuts and a little inspirational chit-chat. If, however, we're talking about a bigger, more dangerous kind of all hell, and the security guys can't be swayed by coffee and donuts, then I'd have to pull out the Big Guns: I'd have to plant a giant aromatherapy garden and learn to play the tambourine. And I hope it doesn't come to that.
We could always ask the residents of New Orleans. If it ever comes to Blackwater working the War on Minorities Who Use Drugs, for example, it'll get real ugly real quick. Since I don't own a gun, I'm sure I and my family would be fucked once I spoke up.
But to continue zbtzahbtzoo's idea, I suppose I could always blare some opera. That might scare them off.
When one lives in the fascist state, one can just organize and try to fight back.

it already happened in new orleans. blackwater contractors beat the cops, fema, and the national guard to the scene of the disaster. they were there to make sure nobody would loot the waterfront oil facilities, the casinos, or any stores of food and stuff. they also wanted to make sure that there remained louisana bridges and lines that black people should never ever dream of crossing.
it's something more serious and sinister than many people grasp.
and hey, maybe if we just make silly little jokes about it, it won't exist, right? now get out there and keep shopping!

I have always been anti-gun and have wished that the 2nd amendment was not interpreted to mean that any nut could get a gun, but suddenly I am very glad to have my 2nd amendment rights, and would definitely arm myself against a Blackwater type of takeover. I actually feel completely insane even writing like this, but I would fight back. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 has always been an inspiration to me. Even though they were crushed by the Nazis, they fought back. That's all we can do.

It's all for sale. It's called Market Democracy. Both the Clinton and both Bush Misadministrations have been full adherents to this type of Social Economic structure.
So with a Hillary win we can rest assured that the Store will remain open for a full 28 year run.

W. T. Sherman said war is hell, and he made his march to the sea to demonstrate that fact. War is hell for those living it and for those whose children are fighting and dying in it.
Private security is used to shield most Americans from having to make any sort of sacrifice. This p.o.s. war got off the ground and stays there because it causes almost no suffering in middle and upper class America.
It has taken me a long time to get disgusted about all this, but I've had it too.

I know that Bushwhacker has beaten me to the punch to some extent, but I suggest to you, PoP, that if Christian missionaries would have been given the keys to Baghdad it would have been even more interesting to watch than these lads of Blackwater. Yeah, I know, one of the main qualification for obtaining any administrative job in Iraq was to have been freshly graduated from various Bible colleges and Christian universities. We tend to forget that oil is not all and the introduction of Jesus to those infidels follows close by.

If you have the weaponry than you might want to protect yourself. However, if you don't the best thing you could do is hide.
They will kill you. Have no doubt about it. They kill woman and children in Iraq daily and if you think they won't kill you your just as delusional as Der Fuhrer is.
Watch them when they do the security work at the Republican Fascist Nazi Parties Convention next year.
And I still say there will be no elections in 2008 as Der Fuhrer will not give anyone the power to arrest him as an Enemy Combatant under the MCA of 2006.

it's insane. maybe some day we will be forced to experience these Blackwater types in our very own little white-bread suburbs. maybe then we'll understand that war is real and serious and costs lives.
