Here’s some Irony for You
Chris Matthews called in to the Morning Joe show on MSNBC yesterday to talk about his new book. Matthews made a strong point that it is so important for politicians and others to “listen” to what people have to say.
If you have ever watched Chris’ show you know the one thing he almost never does is “listen” to what his guest have to say. Most times he is too busy interrupting them to even think about listening to their thoughts.
Chris saying people should listen to one another is about like george bush saying people should speak clearly and distinctly to one another.

And by listening to their president "childrens do learn" to be articulate!
Yeah, as my grandmother would say it like the pot calling the kettle black. I am fortunate that I can't ever recall watching his show but I don't feel at all deprived.
I detest the sunday morning yelling shows for just that reason - nobody actually converses - as in listening to the person you are talking to and answering to what he's talking about. Hardball is just as bad as O'Rielley on that.
Haven't watched Hardball in many years, not only does Chris Matthews not listen, he spits when he talks excitedly. He's creepy. Did get to see him interviewed by Jon Stewart last night. Highly recommend it. Stewart basically skewers him. If I remember correctly, Stewart says, "This book is a recipe for sadness."
The one thing Chris does do well is not always allow his guests to get away with there talking points. I mean you usually have to be very low on the political totem pole to get that treatment, but its still good to see sometimes. I have few choices at 7pm.
we call him kermit the frog. so
weary of the mainstream mouthpieces.
caught him on the daily show last night as well. john schooled him.
The irony makes you want to laugh out loud, Hillary-style!
you are right about him on all counts, but i did love it when he jumped on tony perkins for using the term "pro-abortion" instead of pro-choice.
1st time i ever was glad to have watched the show.
I try not to watch his show, he seems to just like to hear his own point of view regurgitated back at him, so what's the point ?!? It was refreshing to see him on the Daily Show and finally see someone else in his presence getting a word in!
Maybe this means that, someday, our pundit class is be learning. This really ranked right up there with Stewart's appearance on Crossfire a few years back.
Never saw Chris before. I'll have to check him out. Hypocrisy abounds, huh?
John Stewart trashed Matthews last night on his new book.
Matthews was upset.
I shun the talking heads, except for the Daily Show - Colbert Report hour. When people say "listen", it usually means "agree with me".
Chris Matthews said we all should listen to one another, well I am really shocked. As you said, this is one guy that allows no one to answer a question because he's always talking over the answer.
I don't know much about the guy - - I'm not too into television and certainly no cable news shows. But I thought he was Carter's speechwriter and an aide to Tip O'Neil? What the hell happened to him, if that's true.
I call it "short-mike-ing" (mike as in microphone) and no one does it better than Chris. Doesn't he know when two people talk at the same time on TV, the audience cannot hear EITHER of them? ~~ D.K.
matthews (or tweety as he so endearingly known on some of the big liberal blogs) is a big enigma
he hates the clintons, and makes no bones about it, but he also hates bush and the war (but tries to hide his hate for bush) --- he loves Tom Delay ..... go figure i think he is just a big suck up. and he as that scumbag Marsha Blackburn on way too often
Matthews has pretty bad diabetes, that is why his coloring is often off, he spits when he talks, and has some other issues that come across on the screen.
he was on Martha Stewart yesterday --- talk about an uncomfortable match --- they were making Vote 2008 T Shirts
Of course, a loud guy like Chris Mathews is a sort of a prototypical example how not to communicate with one's fellow humans. As the matter of fact, if I had to face this spitting megaphone of a man, I would probably serve him one of my knuckle sandwiches. However, I'll be damn if he isn't entertaining and informative enough to pay attention to.
Mathews was bettered by John Steward by a wide margin, though. I completely agree with him that one's life is not and neither it should be conducted like a campaign just like nations should not be run like corporations. Man, we are under an attack by the mean right-wing philosophies and their steely eyed supporters!
Great analogy.
Thanks for the laugh. I missed his call into Morning Joe, but that would have been enough to make me guffaw.
Just like when Mika B. told Willie and Joe that they were perverts this morning for insisting that she cover the Britney Spears sex tape store.
The disinformation in full gear!
Britney has a sex tape store? Do they have a website? :-)
I think Tweety is like the Mitt Romney of the punditocracy. He'll say and do anything to keep himself afloat in the Beltway cesspool.
Ordinarily I don't like Chris Matthews and I loved how Jon Stewart took him to the woodshed the other night. However, he did just publicly declare that Bush and Cheney are criminals, and that Cheney called MSNBC and tried to get them to censor Matthews. He's the highest profile reporter/pundit to make such a statement. Glad to hear it.
