Steppin’ out with my baby
We went out yesterday to run some errands. On the way home, not far from our house, we saw these two beauties. Two Sandhill Cranes steppin’ out and taking a lovely Sunday afternoon stroll.
This is why you should never leave home without your camera. We pulled over to the side of the road, I grabbed my camera from my purse, put my window down and shot these pictures as they walked by.
Mother Nature brings you wonderful surprises if you keep an eye out for them.

what beautiful birds....
What a gorgeous sight. I have taken up that philosophy of late... be camera ready.
There are many beauteous things to behold, despite so many trying to ruin our world.
This makes me glad to be back!
And we shall call them Frasier & Niles perhaps?
Well, POP, that is one great picture. I grabbed another just a few days ago from PureFlorida. The SH Cranes migrate over us each year along with the Canadian Geese, and they both make for a heck of a noisy display. Occasionally, they stop at the nearby swamp for a drink and a frog or two. When I lived in Florida (sob), they and many other "exotics" were commonplace.
Now if I could just keep the Red Tailed Hawk from dining at my goldfish pond...
Great pic. Not sure I have ever seen one live and up close. I need to get me a camera I can keep in my briefcase for just such moments. My Nikon is too big.
Sweet! I am so envious!
Good one POP!
What a delightful opportunity you happened upon!
wonderful, uplifting photo. (and i'd go for niles and frasier too). mother nature is awesome.
What a treat!

very cool.
i was closely watched during my barn chores this morning by a big ass roadrunner. too cool!
great looking birds. wow. here, we see great blue herons a lot. cranes and herons are some of my most-favorites.
geeeezzz. wonderful!
What a pair of beauties. I've never seen sand hill cranes. I just love their red heads. This photo makes me wonder what the land was like there before the houses were built.
Incredible. You need your own birding blog now!
robin, i wondered that too. waht came before the stucco? wetlands?
They are calligraphic, and look, they are in synch! Beautiful! Lucky you.
Very cool and indeed they are 'steppin out'. I canoed with my son this afternoon and enjoyed watching a kingfisher buzz the water.
Today, I had my close encounter of a rabbit kind. While I was watching this magnificent and adorable creature, I couldn't help but remind myself that we, the humans, are perhaps the only species ever to be able and seemingly willing to work toward our own extinction.
This makes one forget about how cruel this country and this world can be. Thanks for sharing such beauties
Great picture! I love it when you can get something spontaneous!
Thanks for the tiger vote ... Jack was the winning entry though!
Very cool! Thanks!
Yikes! Panhandlin' Sand Hill Cranes. Just like the ones in MY backyard. Patricia, you must be a fellow Floridian.
