Information Gathering or Grandstanding?

I suggest they cancel these town hall meetings all together. They are nothing more than a stage for birthers, deathers, and tea baggers to grandstand.

Nothing of importance is happening at these meetings and a quick phone call to a representative or senator would probably garner more information on health care reform than spending three hours at one of these meetings.

Cancel the meetings and allow the anger and rage to settle down before someone gets hurt. As long as there is a spotlight and a microphone someone will take the opportunity to try to grab their fifteen seconds of fame whether the anger and rage is sincere or dramatized. Nothing is coming out of these meetings but misinformation and danger. We don’t need either right now.

People need to voice their opinions - whether they are voiced in rage or not, they, we, have the right to be heard.

Voicing one's opinion is not at issue. It's the method of shouting down civil discourse with intimidation, all the while armed with disinformation, falsehoods, rumor, innuendo, fear, and very little facts to support their allegations.

Can you imagine the shit-storm if American military were to march into sovereign countries to fight terrorism? Town Hall meetings would be utter mayhem..... Wait.... never mind.

I disagree. I think it would be a terrible idea to just stop discussing this in public. People feel the need to make a stink. Let them. Just make sure they do it in a way that respects the rights of others. You can hold a meeting without letting it turn into a free-for-all.

There have been many meetings where things went fine. Here's one. Exceptional behavior, like people shouting and threatening others, is what gets noticed. It's not the only thing that's happening.

And frankly, I think that shutting these things down is what the bastards who are winding these people up and sending them to town halls want. I don't want to give them that satisfaction.

I think Cujo has a point. shut down the meetings and just SEE what the MSM would report.

that said, I think it takes tremendous courage to hold a meeting after you've been hanged in effigy, had a swastika painted on your headquarters or received death threats.
I'm not sure I'm made of such stern stuff.
I'm just praying that no one dies as a result of the craziness.

Cujo does have a point, but I worry about Obama either being killed or just wasting his time on these nuts.
