Not Good
Where to start? We had an unfortunate incident here last night. Molly slipped past us last night after dinner and got to Fred the Cat. Fred the Cat will be okay but it was ugly. Sadly we have determined that this isn’t going to work with Molly. We can’t take a chance on this happening again. This was Fred’s home first and it will be his last home. If there is any good news to come from this it is that an employee at the veterinarian’s office wants to give Molly a home and this employee has no other animals in her home. My heart is broken, but I have to do what I believe is right. That’s about all I want to say right now.

I tell ya, my old German Shepherd (who hated cats) and my mom's cat had some knock-down, drag-outs but they finally got it together. Maybe you might want to give it a few more days? Just a suggestion, you know what's best for your house but I hate to see you so heartbroken. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Can't be good if the Vet was involved. Fixer's suggestion might be worth trying but you know best. Sorry it isn't working out.
Get well soon, Fred!
hugs to you- and fred.
Yikes! Hope all goes well.
Sorry, PoP. I know you had your heart set on a new puppy.
PoP....
yes.... I still lurk here occasionally....
sorry about what happened..... but your mistake is in not knowing about what breeds are or aren't good with cats......
Westies are terriers..... terriers and cats do NOT mix well.....
a google search on what small breeds do well with cats might be a good thing to do before you find another little buddy..... many small dogs were originally bred to go after rodents and other pests.... it's too bad they don't understand that a cat is another household pet.....
I wish you much luck in your search....
Oh no! That's very sad news. Hope Fred is okay and certainly well enough to write his post tomorrow.
i guess molly self-selected her future. get well fred.
Ugh. Sorry to hear this.
Based on what I know about rescue groups, you might want to let them know that you passed the dog along to a vet tech. They may want the dog back since you aren't keeping it.

poor fred...hope things level out soon for all of you.
sending love and hugs...
Awww, so sorry things didn't work out.
Sorry things didn't work out. Sometimes they don't, particularly if you have other animals in the house. Better luck next time.
I hope Fred is better today and can at least send us a message tomorrow. I'm sorry for all of you, but glad Molly has found another home. If you decide to try this again, maybe a puppy would be a better fit for Fred, who can have the upper paw safely until the puppy learns his place? I know you tried your best to keep them apart until Molly learned that Fred was part of the pack and not to be the prey.
so sorry it didn't work out.
get better quickly, Fred.
I'm glad Molly landed safely, but, you're right, Fred was there first and he deserves to know his home is safe.
I'm so soryy! Bad situation! for sure, poor Fred & Molly. guess it wasnt a match made in heaven!

I am sorry to hear what happen. Most of my life, I am 65, I have had both dogs and cats at the same time in the house. Most of the time the cats were kittens and the dogs were puppies. Yes we went through the destruction of young animals. The dogs were all big except our Cairn Terrier. The big dogs included Standard Schnauzer, Greyhound/Other Mix, 2 Black Labrador/Doberman Pinscher Mix (current dogs), Rottweiler/Pit Bull Mix (son's dog). We even had a white deaf cat that was leader of the pack with the Rottweiler/Pit Bull Mix and the Greyhound/Other Mix.
I recommend checking the "pet board" at your vet's office and ask your vet to be on the lookout for a lovable dog that will get along with Fred. You might be surprised. We got the white deaf cat and the Greyhound/Other Mix with the help of our vet.
Oh, PoP. Big hugs to you and to Fred, and here's hoping you'll find the right pup for all of you.
