A Pattern for 2008?
My mom used to say that whatever you do on the first day of a new year, that’s what you will be doing all year long.
Okay, yesterday I watched the Rose Bowl parade, which always fascinates me. I watched some college football. Mr. Pop and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. I roasted a turkey and made all kinds of side dishes. Then we popped open a bottle of champagne. Later I had a New Year’s Day martini in the new glass that Santa brought me.
Hey, I wouldn’t mind doing these sorts of things all year long.

That sounds pretty good! I'll bring good gin or vodka- you tell me what you prefer in both spirit and brand.
I'll come over one day for the perpetual New Year's day celebration.
As for me- I had a nice day of doing a little of this and that, but feeling optimistic, happy.
So I could certainly use feeling that way all year!
Maybe I feel optimistic and happy because I will one day attend PoP's on-going party. Very nice.
(and I'll bring animal treats too!)
I need a do-over :-)
Party all year at PoP's house.......
Yee-Hawwwwwwwwwwwwww
i slept a lot
is that a sign?
Sort of a lost day for me yesterday. Didn't do much of anything special. Watched a couple of movies and read. Very quiet day which isn't at all a bad thing to look forward to all year. Then again an all year party isn't such a bad option either.
Where did that come from anyhow, My mom used to say it too, so I dare not clean or pay bills! I relaxed! for sure, not much energy let over fro anything else. Guess from watching children and driving!
Damn, my New Years Day was nothing like that. Actually, if what I did yesterday is in any way indicative of what they rest of the year is going to be like, it is going to be a sucky year.
I'm with Mike. I cleaned and cooked and put stuff away yesterday. Kinda like everyday last year! Uh oh. I see a sucky pattern.
Happy New Year to you, Mr. PoP, Fred and Murphy!
Luf, Us
I heard that it's what you do on your birthday is how you'll spend the year. Well, if it's how we spend new year's day, then for me it's caretaking a sick mom, doing laundry, making homemade veggie burgers, and stealing an hour for a walk in the wilderness (seriously), photographing a red-tailed hawk, and some coyote scat that was filled with bright embroidery thread and mouse bones!
Did you say turkey? Mmm... Two slices please! Happy New Year, Pissed Off Patricia!
I'll be drinking and watching a Twilight Zone marathon ALL YEAR???
Cool.
We accepted an offer on our house. Hope they don't back out and we have to keep doing this all year...
I need a mulligan...I cleaned a chunk of the day....watched football and really awful movies with son...( the movies were fun- but I really don't want to watch bad movies all year..or clean...yikes)
why don't you? happy new year :)
sleep until noon-ish?
make the curried fish i never made on n.y.e.? drink proseco? watch the hawaii rainbow warriors get horribly beaten by the georgia bulldogs? :(
i could live with a relaxing year ahead, i really could. however, the 15 year old comes back home from grandma's today, so my r and r is probably fini, for now. happy new year to you.
Does that mean you would be watching the Rose Parade all year? Yikes.
Oy vey, I'll be napping in my favorite chair, re-reading a Harry Potter book for the millionth time, and taking down Christmas shite? And no booze? I definitely need a do-over here too.
I want a do-over. No way an I spending the year in an airplane, returning home from 70 degree temps to 10 inches of snow.
Sounds good to me!
I sat on the couch and worried.
Fat happy and drunk in front of a football game all year Hmmm sounds okay to me.
Me neither, POP.
Hmmm. I slept till 11,went to the grocery store, drove out to my sister's house in the burbs. Had fondue for dinner, played Guitar Hero III with my nieces.
I could do that minus the driving!
I've heard that too. Guess my year will be good too - spent the day enjoying a prolonged brunch with my husband and family!
I wish I'd known about that saying. I might've been a bit less SLOTHFUL. uh-oh, this doesn't bode well for losing 10-lbs.
Oh dear ... I have had overnight for several days and have been madly cooking and cleaning. Definitely NOT what I want to be doing every day this year! lol ... I'd rather be sharing martinis and turkey!! *-)
I cleaned my apartment yesterday. The whole damn place. Spotless... And as I looked around I realized that my level of stress had substantially diminished. The anxiety went away and I smiled, pleased with how comfortable I felt.
The trick? Keeping it that way.
Hmmm,
I am not sure if this is good or bad. I ate well the first day of the year, did a lot of cleaning and a lot of napping. I also smiled a lot. I also enjoyed breakfast (more eating) with my overnight guests. All in all, I would have to say that I could enjoy this for the rest of the year. Thanks for sharing your mother's wisdom.
