A Pattern for 2008?

My mom used to say that whatever you do on the first day of a new year, that’s what you will be doing all year long.

Okay, yesterday I watched the Rose Bowl parade, which always fascinates me. I watched some college football. Mr. Pop and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. I roasted a turkey and made all kinds of side dishes. Then we popped open a bottle of champagne. Later I had a New Year’s Day martini in the new glass that Santa brought me.

Hey, I wouldn’t mind doing these sorts of things all year long.

That sounds pretty good! I'll bring good gin or vodka- you tell me what you prefer in both spirit and brand.

I'll come over one day for the perpetual New Year's day celebration.

As for me- I had a nice day of doing a little of this and that, but feeling optimistic, happy.

So I could certainly use feeling that way all year!

Maybe I feel optimistic and happy because I will one day attend PoP's on-going party. Very nice.

(and I'll bring animal treats too!)

Sort of a lost day for me yesterday. Didn't do much of anything special. Watched a couple of movies and read. Very quiet day which isn't at all a bad thing to look forward to all year. Then again an all year party isn't such a bad option either.

Damn, my New Years Day was nothing like that. Actually, if what I did yesterday is in any way indicative of what they rest of the year is going to be like, it is going to be a sucky year.

I'm with Mike. I cleaned and cooked and put stuff away yesterday. Kinda like everyday last year! Uh oh. I see a sucky pattern.

Happy New Year to you, Mr. PoP, Fred and Murphy!

I heard that it's what you do on your birthday is how you'll spend the year. Well, if it's how we spend new year's day, then for me it's caretaking a sick mom, doing laundry, making homemade veggie burgers, and stealing an hour for a walk in the wilderness (seriously), photographing a red-tailed hawk, and some coyote scat that was filled with bright embroidery thread and mouse bones!

Hmmm. I slept till 11,went to the grocery store, drove out to my sister's house in the burbs. Had fondue for dinner, played Guitar Hero III with my nieces.
I could do that minus the driving!

I wish I'd known about that saying. I might've been a bit less SLOTHFUL. uh-oh, this doesn't bode well for losing 10-lbs.

I cleaned my apartment yesterday. The whole damn place. Spotless... And as I looked around I realized that my level of stress had substantially diminished. The anxiety went away and I smiled, pleased with how comfortable I felt.
The trick? Keeping it that way.

Hmmm,
I am not sure if this is good or bad. I ate well the first day of the year, did a lot of cleaning and a lot of napping. I also smiled a lot. I also enjoyed breakfast (more eating) with my overnight guests. All in all, I would have to say that I could enjoy this for the rest of the year. Thanks for sharing your mother's wisdom.
