Vacancies at the Home of the Brave

This weekend some Democrats gave in to the bush NSA demand. They seemed to be afraid of being called soft on terrorism if they did not. In my opinion they aren’t soft on terrorism, they’re soft on democracy.

To hell with any Democrat who voted once more in support of the king’s demands. I have been somewhat supportive of some things they have done in the past, but this was the last straw. Out with the old and out with the weak! There are some vacancies at the home of the brave. They must be filled with people who qualify, not people who are fearful of Republican name calling.

The bottom line for these people has always been receiving their pay and re=election many times over. ; (

Even if no one is there to fill a seat, I'm willing to vote for no one, but vote a write in to at least let my dismay at all the juvenile tactics they all continue to use.

Watching them debate this vote was indeed similar to a HS debate.

Unbelievable! ; (

The sad thing is, no matter what dems do, Repugs will always call them soft on terrorism.

As Meteor Blades said over at Daily Kos, they are not soft on anything, they are complicit. Co-conspiritors, so to speak.

A pox on both their houses. What part of Bush's plummeting approval ratings don't they understand?

I think it is telling that this bill was signed into law on Sunday. So, here's the deal: if you happen to live in the USA, and you're calling someone in another country, that phone call can be listened to without a warrant as long as the govmint thinks that that furriner is a scary person.

Uh-huh. My post today is on this topic too.

And to top if off, it authorizes Abu Gonzales to sign off on NSA activities. The one silver lining on this dark cloud is that it is a 6 month authorization of the program. My guess - the dems were not concentrating on this bill and plan to write another one that doesn't run as far afoul of the constitution as this one does.

The 41 Democrats who voted yea on this bill should all be given their walking papers by their constituents. This bill is an outrage. Giving oversight to Alberto Gonzales, after we've seen him prevaricate during sworn testimony shows how inept, venal, and fearful these people are. Time to elect representatives with backbone.

And the energy bill they passed is a travesty...no fuel economy requirements for the automakers.

More importantly, we need to fill those slots with people who will listen to and respond to their constituents and not some uppity President or VP.

I am so disappointed and so disgustd with the whole bunch; the whole process, which never seems to work. I cannot bear another year and a half of dumbo in office and nobody keeping him in check. Buncha fuckers!

Here is a repeat of an idea I've floated once or twice before. If you really, really want to send a message to the Democrats about how disgusted you are with their performance, elect a Green to the House.

Seriously. Scout out a district which
is contestable (close between Dem and Repub). Get the Greens to run one of their best and brightest. Pour massive amounts of support (money, supplies, people power) from all over the country into the Green Candidate. Convert the Democrats in the district. Get young people registered and involved in the campaign. Make it a real contest. And get the Green elected...pull a Democrat out of Congress.

All it takes is one victory like this to shock the hell out of the Democratic Party...

I know Bush weedled them and they did not want to appear soft on so called terorism but I am fed up with anyone giving in to the chief idiot and am stunned that they wwould give him more power to abuse.
I said before the 2006 election and I reiterate, regardless of party every inadequate politician who is not doing the peoples work must go and they must know that is the case. We cannot play any more games. We are out of time.

I feel the same as Average Patriot...we can't play any more games. We can't afford it anymore. I don't even think we'll get this thing changed around. We are in for a new millennium and the standard has been set. The people will have to come forward and TRY to set some new rules...but I'm not sure that THEY will let us. I think we are too far gone into a police state of policy...for us to dig ourselves out without violence...on us. I know I'm being negative...but I don't see it getting better...I see that it will get worse before it is over. And I see it being worse for the people. I do hope I'm wrong...and someone will finally stand for what is right and for us...as we try to stand for ourselves.

Elections, what are those? Oh I remember now, that's something there use to be before Martial Law was invoked and the Constituttion Suspended.

You know that old saying know your enemies. Well now he can spy on those Americans and find out who his enemies are. After all you don't want to arrest the wrong people now do you. Not the ones who support you any way.

Get ready folks, its going to be a very long upcoming months where we will lose that which we cherish most.

Our Freedom and Democracy.

God Bless.

I agree with your post and all the comments. I am disgusted with the Democrats for giving in to him once again. Just once I would like to see them stand up for what is right instead of putting their finger up to test the wind. We so need a new party in this country.

I don't get the spineless acquiescence repeatedly exhibited by Congress; apparently being the victim of potential "swiftboating" attacks can be a powerful motivator.
