When Will it End?
“Al-Zaman reports that 21 US troops have been killed in Iraq since Saturday, with 8 killed on Monday alone.
As of Tuesday, 23,416 US troops have been wounded or killed in the Iraq War.”

When will it end? How can it end? How many more deaths will there be?

When will it end? When every drop of oil has been sucked from the ground, when every dollar has been sucked from the tax payer's pockets to enrich defense contractor's, when every American is fed up with watching a family member killed, or physically or psychologically wounded or maimed, or when it becomes politically expedient for our politicians to do so. And not one second before.
What Lew said.
This causes me pain. If it doesn't make people hurt, then there is something wrong with them. This is the most painful, hurtful government in my lifetime.
Lew pretty much sums it up. Until we have publicly funded election campaigns, term limits and serious controls on lobbying the money will contrinue to drive every political decision. Changing out Congress wholesale will help but it won't be enough.
I completely agree with peacechick mary about this being "the most painful, hurtful government in my lifetime." We gotta fight like hell to begin turning it around in November. It will take some time to repair the damage done, but we must begin the process.
The numbers of the dead continue to overwhelm me. But the CNN poll on your link is somewhat reassuring--looks like the majority of Americans are getting the point! Nevertheless, I would like to know who in the hell these people are:
39% think Bush is doing a good job as president.
42% will vote for the Republican candidate in November.
This is an open ended occupation. Since there are no stated and thereby quantifiable goals, this thing will just keep going. Afghanistan is impossible to "win" - just ask any nation that's tried to conquer them. Iraq could go several ways depending on their internal politics and the big player on the scene, Iran. If they choose to become involved in the near future, we could see enormous losses. None of this will reach a conclusion before the end of the decade.
What Lew said but adding when GWB's ego has been fed enough, and God knows that is probably never going to be enough!
Only when terrorism is defeated. Oh, I'm sorry, was that sarcsartic? You can't defeat a concept, can you? So I guess the answer is never. God, help us.
Stay the Course!
At the very least we know,
"We will not leave Iraq while I'm still Presidenr of the United States."
It may not end until they destroy their ability to survive on a dying planet. Humans were supposed to evolve into God, but it got all messed up early on. God has a thumb, God could make a beaufiful planet and there wouldn't be wars, if it wasn't for those monkeys that look like humans. God will be lonely, but it will be peaceful.
a little blogwhoring before i go back to work:
I'm giving away Cormac MacCarthy's new book
You ever notice that Bush and Osama are never in the same photos.
Just thinking out loud...
whe WILL it end -- this madness called war which we have endured ever since we lost our connection to our Mother earth??
i feel it in my soul that the Goddess is about to take things back into her hands..(and i don't mean me, i mean the goddess energy)
I'm afraid Culture Ghost nailed it completely. The next president will have to take care of Bush's folly.
I've been thinking a lot about this, and I'll have some kind of a response later, in my normal haunt.
The first thing that has to stop is Bush getting advice from Kissinger, damn, talk about reliving Vietnam. Why hasn’t he choked on his drool yet.
what Lew said. Or until Dickhead Cheney drops dead.
I can't add much to the comments already here. Rising polls showing everybody against the war isn't going to do us much good. He doesn't listen to the people anyway. Peacechick: I think I'm considerably older than you, and this is by far the most hurtful Presidency I've ever seen. It's also the first time in my life I've been afraid of the man in the oval office. As long as he's there, this war will continue. Our biggest worry now, is will this, and the war in Afganistan, be the ONLY wars he will leave us with?
I agree with lew, as usual, but would add that it also would take people to change their ways. Demand fuel efficiency, demand perhaps a few less conveniences.
I bash Bushco like everyone else, but I insist that we not leave out the elements of the american lifestyle that feeds the beast, so to speak.
WE have to pay attention, do more, and not live in huge square feet homes driving huge cars from our sprawl to Walmart every weekend creating carbon and adding to the oil addiction. WE must stop our madness too.
And to PoP- Are you by chance going to the Dali Hispanic Heritage festival this month? It looks AWESOME!
When will your diatribe against Bush end?

When will we rid ourselves of violence, hatred, greed, mistrust, misuse of power and corruption?
...and speaking as a Canadian, when will we learn to truly appreciate the relative state of peace we live in?
When will it end? How can it end?
When?
Who knows at this point?
How?
When human life becomes more important than money and abstractions like patriotism and gods.
Looks like we all agree it will never end.
Azgoddess, read "War before civilization" if you think that war is a recent construct.
