Fred the Cat and Peak time

Okay, time for this cat to fess up. Last night I wanted to stay up and watch the debate starring Governor Palin and Senator Biden. I had my cosmic catnip mouse right beside me and I was all ready to watch the show. But then I made a big mistake. I decided to just nibble on the catnip mouse a little bit. A little bit turned into a lot and before I knew it, I peaked too soon, crashed and fell asleep. Missed the whole ducking thing.

So help me out here. How did it go? Best part? Worst part? I’ll share my next cosmic catnip mouse with you if you fill me in on what happened.

Have a great weekend and I hope your peak timing is better than mine.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat (the cat who loves you guys!)

Palin only totally lost track of what she was saying once, but didn't make a serious gaffe. She was stringing approved phrases together and making real sentences most of the time. As a natural republican, when her mouth was open, lies fell out. I give her a C-.

Biden was unenergized, but in command of rafts of information, which he used to pretty good effect. His best moment was when he explained McCain's health care plan - in plain language - and looking into the camera he says: "Two hundred thousand of YOU will loose your health care..."

I did a short post on it but it was entirely what I expected. Princess Caribou had memorized all the stock GOP talking points if she called McSame a maverick once it was a hundred times. I couldn't actually tell if she answered any of the questions directly and clearly on most she just ignored them altogether and regurgitated another memorized set of phrases.
Biden was in control and showed remarkable restraint. Had his facts and responded well and factually to all of the lies cast by his opponent. She beat the expectations which will give her some due but Biden won the debate hands down. This debate won't change the dynamic in the election.

my husband put it best when he said that he didn't care who had a better personality- he wanted someone who could do the job. palin ain't it. he is an independent and for him to watch a debate- let alone 6 hours of news around it- and then shake his head and say 'these people could win'- it was bad. she looked nervous, rehearsed, and cartoony. i think she's like cheney in more ways than wanting to expand the vice presidency- she prefer backroom wheelin' and dealin' to being straightforward. not once did she speak to the mccain/palin platform (i doubt that there is one) and not once did she talk about how their platform differed from obama/biden's. but she sure did appeal to the 'energized base' goshdarnit by golly!

She's very good at not looking down at her list of talking points. That's what I call multitasking.

Palin didn't freeze up and sputter, but she also never answered a question directly. She was a perfect automaton, set to go at the appropriate time, wound up for 90 minutes, and hit play. Biden was substantive and thoughtful. He actually answered the questions as they were posed to him.

Everyone above has pretty much summarized it all. I will add that she WINKED at the camera. Seriously. I saw one wink, but Sorghum Crow said he saw three! It was disgusting. You made the right choice to just hit the nip and zone out, buddy.

Have a good weekend, and take care of Pop and Mr. Pop.

Let's just say she did better than I expected her to, but didn't stay on point very well. Biden was smooth as silk but focused on the past way too much.

I preferred to watch South Park reruns on Comedy Central. It was the one where Chef almost married a succubus until the boys played her song backward and revealed her for the soul sucking demon that she was.

I wonder what Sarah Palin's song is? And if we could get somebody to play it backwards?

I tuned out for the debate itself [it's always the lies we want to hear anyway -- never the truth --no matter who's talking] and tuned in for the commentators afterward.
and they were all saying 'she didn't fall on her face' and 'he was in command of the facts.' and neither spouted any gaffes.

so, according to the talking heads, she exceeded her expectations and he met his.
**whew!** at least he didn't say that the Gettysburg Address was one of the finest moments in television history!

I guess no minds were changed. :(
moot point for me -- I mailed in my vote for Obama yesterday.

robin andrea came up with the same conclusion that I had. It really irritated me when she was asked a question and went into left field with something totally different.

The catnip was way more interesting than two politicians arguing about whose color is better for the people.

You probably wouldn't have been able to stay awake anyway.

Biden was perfect! His face looked relaxed. He was calm. His tone and demeanor toward Palin was absolutely perfect. His knowledge and experience were obvious. Yes, Palin has that razzle-dazzle, but it was so empty and staged next to this man. He did us proud.

The best part was Palin playing the flute during the talent portion of the debate.
