Surge, Sacrifice and a Bigger Shovel

We’ve all heard the old saying that tells us when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

It seems sometime next week the “decider” will tell us what his decision is regarding “the way forward” in Iraq. From what we’re hearing now he is going to demand a bigger shovel and more digging. He'll call for more troops and sacrifice. Can’t anyone stop this man? What other sacrifice will he call for and how can he justify his demands?

Short of shooting the bastard (which I think is a viable option!), the Rule Of Law has to be followed, and the folks we elected are unwilling to follow that Rule of Law.

I'm afraid we're jammed right in that hole with him, without consultation.

When will the decider, who's a uniter, not a divider, make some sacrifies of his own? I think enough blood has been spilled on the behalf of the Amrican people to preserve his perceived legacy, I think it's time for those who are continuing to ask us to make sacrifices put their cards on the table, and that goes for Democrats as well as Republicans.

This must be National Puke-Inducing Hypocrisy Week. First we're treated to the spectacle of Dick Cheney talking about "honor and integrity" (while eulogizing Ford), as if he even knows the meaning of those words. And here we have Shrubya, a blithering idiot who coasted through life on the strength of his father's sullied name and bank account, talking about "sacrifice."

What's next, a lecture on maturity and frugality from Paris Hilton? Nicole Ritchie extolling the virtures of a balanced diet? Gahhhh!

Dub doesn't have to justify in a way that we will understand, because he does not care! We're still expecting him to be rational, he's not. He is demented. I hope our new congress will at least put up a fight. They might not win it, but at least a fight.

Leave it to Keith Olbermann to hit the nail on the head, as usual.

If in your presence an individual tried to sacrifice an American serviceman or woman, would you intervene? Would you at least protest? What if he had already sacrificed 3,003 of them? What if he had already sacrificed 3,003 of them — and was then to announce his intention to sacrifice hundreds, maybe thousands, more?

What a horrible God GWB worships - that demands blood sacrifice in such quantity.

Even the Aztecs would shudder...

Sewmouse,

He worships Moloch, which demanded living children be fed into his sacred flames. To be painfully blunt (as usual), I'd say that most of the so-called Christians who back Bush no longer worship Jehovah or Jesus.

I think he expects us to shut-up and let him decide. He has to protect is ego and 'legacy' at all costs. He thinks he is the only one that understands or matters. He is showing his opinion of us everyday of how he considers all but his rich circle of privilege and that is as expendable and no big loss.

PoP, sometimes you amaze me - you are obviously channeling KO (or he is channeling you). You well know my feelings about Dumya, and this is just one more misguided attempt to stem the flow of blood from his would-be legacy, and the lives and health of our servicemen be damned. If you have not read the piece Dumya wrote that was posted at the WSJ opinion page, do.

Dumya does an op-ed for the WSJ

He's going to talk to us next week about "sacrific." I think we should all demand that we be asked to sacrifice something other than the lives of more innocents. How about driving less? How about cutting our demand for oil? How about turning down the heat? How about we just impeach this president.

The man is pure evil! There is just no other way to describe him. For someone like him that knows nothing about sacrifice to even say the word is a slap in the face to the whole nation.

The whole republican party has become like a deadly virus that cannot be cured. On nov. 7th, all we did was put it into remission. The virus still lingers and awaits to rear its ugly head again. We can little afford to miss a day of taking our meds for this affliction.

hi pop.
love your blog title and content.
as for the decider... it is beyond comprehensible that he is still the president. the fact that he is makes me wonder what on earth it will take, to be rid of the bastard.
maybe speaker pelosi will come through, though i admit that i'm saddened at the lack of backbone in so many democratic leaders.

PoP:

Should the president speak of sacrifice, the new Democratic Congress should immediately pass a universal service act, known as the draft. Ironically, I believe with the passage of a draft those who will be sacrificed will most assuredly rise up and protest their future sacrifices and replace this delusional president. Oh, and don't forget, Mr. President, to ask your own daughters to sacrifice their leisure world for the sake of the nation. What has become us?

Well, Bush, Cheney, and every other person who's been on the Iraq Gravy Train over these past several years are of course loathe to give up any profit. So they'll ride it as close as they can to the bloody brink, jump off, then head off to their fancy compounds to smirk and blame the Dems for not cleaning up properly in the Middle East. Thus they will achieve profit, powerlust fulfillment, and avouding the blame.
This kind of stuff started back in the US Civil War, when W's great great or more grampa was selling cannons to both sides. He's carrying on a grand family tradition of war profiteering.
And he's so far removed from any want or notion of sacrifice that he needs a hard lesson in what it actually means.
One he will probably never get.

I have a dumb question WHAT IF: What if ALL the governors said NO to taking THEIR ( our) Guard to Iraq ?
I think they have the Power and the Right ...
Anyone Know ???...

And if that is SO...then should we be writing to our governors and calling and making our feelings known ?

( sorry POP, but you asked if there is any way to stop him.....so it got me thinking...)

We in Montana have planned direct actions to follow immediately upon any call for a surge. Lets stop complaining and start organizing today, go to the blogs and call for action, organize your friends and community. This is far from inevitable. We are getting arrested here, anybody want to join us?

My heart breaks for these men and women and then I remember that they are the ones who put him in office again. I wonder if they get it yet? I wonder if they know they are being used and sacrificed and how many of their fellow country men still don't even have health coverage? Sorry, but he does have the legal right to do so. Thanks to that Fascist Nazi Republican Duncan Hunter.

enigma....
On January 1 the new DOD bill goes into effect. There's a revision in there that gives Der Fuehrer Bush the power to take the National Guard from any state against the Governors wishes and send them to any other state against that Governors wishes.

As too whether or not he can send to to Iraq, he already is, isn't he. Who do you think keeps getting sent back over time and again.

And he also can use them against demonstrators also under the Military Commissions Act or even Martial Law.

A revolution may be all that's left to reclaim our country from this insane madman. That or the World finally standing up to him.

PoP....
No, he will not stop digging the hole, it's not deep enough for him yet.

God Bless all.

But isn't this exactly the problem? He's been saying all along that the war involves no sacrifice on our part, and in the end this is why even the Dems will go meekly along with this. Like $300B isn't a sacrifice. Lost lives are not a sacrifice. Another $150B isn't a sacrifice.
