Amp it Up or Tamp it Down
I’m not ready to say right wing talk show hosts and radio people are in any way responsible for the tragic shootings we have witnessed lately, but I do think they are in a perfect position to try to tamp it down. They know who their audiences are and now would be such a good time for them to calm their fears rather than amp them up.

Seriously, darlin', I know you don't think that'll happen. Throwing red meat to their "base" means ratings and ratings mean money. It'll get worse before it gets better.
I respect you immensely, Patricia, but I believe you're wrong. Not only are the Becks and Limbaughs and Coulters yelling "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater, they're splashing around kerosene with matches in their grubby paws. Is it going to get worse? I'm afraid so.
i absolutely blame the hate media. faux news and hate radio and the hate bloggers like malkkkin- they prime the pump. did ya get a load of the tea bag parties? hannity's 'concert series' throughout the country? any of the radio shows or pundit shows on cable? they throw chunks of red meat to the faithful and they don't care in the grander scheme if a few 'lone wolves' go out and kill innocent folks. keeps the fear factor going.
Like the other commenters, I have to say it's gonna get even worse before (or IF) it ever gets better. I can only hope that they eventually self-destruct from a hatred and idiocy overload.
I don't think they'll calm it down, that's just not their style. They like the fear and the shoot 'em up way of doing things.
If accused of culpable/negligent rhetoric, they will deny, deny, deny.
Then they will continue their hate-filled speech and blame the victims...
All in the name of their god, jesus christ.

I just wonder if the word came down from on high: "The RWN's are listening too closely to us! People are dying and newsies are noticing how much hate we're spewing! Tamp it down! Tamp it down!"
So, Shepard had his marching orders and he acted.
