New Stuff

Hey, Fred the Cat here and look what Murphy and I got this week. A brand new bed for each of us.

As you can see mine is leopard print for the wild cat in me. Pop wasn’t crazy about the print but since this was all that was available, she bought it. Man you should see how plush it is inside. My old bed was a hand me down from a previous family cat. Ha! No more second hand stuff for this cat.

You’ll notice Murphy’s new bed is sort of girly looking but look how comfy he looks. I think it fits him just fine, don’t you? His old bed had lost it’s spunk and wasn’t soft enough for the old guy.

So you’ll pardon me now if I go back and curl up in my new bed with my new Cosmic catnip. Ah, for Murphy and me, life is good.

Here’s another reason life is good for The Murph Man and me. When we get old and sick and can’t get well, we are allowed to relieved of our pain and our painful life. Why do you humans not allow the same for yourselves? Just askin’.

Have a great weekend and rest assured Murphy and I sure will.

Hey Fred. Great Question.

Ultimately, it is because of their lack of faith, don't you think?

Does the word humane, come from the word human? It wouldn't seem so!

Let's not tell Murphy that his bed is "girly", and he will never know the difference. Nice cave, Fred! You can be like Elvis and name it "The Jungle Room".

Nice digs there Fred. Good question too! Humans do a lot of things that don't make sense but in this particular case it is because they are afraid.

Fred and Murph look really comfy.
How many of us would like to have a little futon like that out on the deck??

I love the new beds and think you got the better of the two Fred! Sometimes its not the human that's sick that's afraid but everyone around them, makes it very hard to let go.

Fred,
You and Murph have a great weekend ahead with all that new comfy fluffy stuff. Fred, you are pretty smart coming up with that question about humans vs. pets.

what nice manners you have fred, sleeping only in a designated bed. you too murphy. maybe one of you, probably fred, could have a word with the cat who lives here. he has decided that every bed, couch, soft chair, and certain places on the rugs are all his beds(s). he gets a bit cranky when we sleep in one of his favorites while he is also there, but does, with some grumbling, allow us into the bed we thought was ours.

I see Roger beat me to it! Our cat sleeps anywhere he likes, and looks at us ruefully if we make a move to share his space. Maybe if we bought him a pretty new bed, he might adopt it as his own.

We don't get to relieve our loved ones from their suffering because we can not be trusted to make these decisions. We leave that up to god, even for those people who don't believe in god and would prefer compassionate assistance.

When I saw this Google clip of some people trying to get a cat to walk on a treadmill, I laughed so hard and thought of Fred.

My 89 year old mother has sometimes wondered aloud about that, Fred. She thinks people should be allowed the same comfort at the end of their lives that animals are...
Rico our cat sleeps with us at night, usually. He's an aging bachelor cat, set in his ways.

Actually, Fred, you ought to consider yourself (and Murphy) lucky. If we humans were to truly start treating our pets as equals, your lives would become freakin' miserable. Charles Darwin titled one his books The Descent of Man for a really good reason, you know.

And forget about what PoP thinks -- leopard print suits you rather well.

Have a nice weekend...

Fred my man, your bed is a bit on the flashy side. I am not trying to suggest that it looks like a pimp's Cadillac, oh heavens no, but it holds a strong hint that the occupant might be a party animal...a cool cat. Please, extend my regards to Murphy who had class enough not to lay on his back when the picture was taken! Something about the butt holes that I don't handle particularly well.

Our cat Mr Scooter is too big for one of these beds. So we got a huge box and cut a door in one side, then padded it all out inside. He can stretch out in there with all his toys. He loves it. He is 14, getting old, and has FiV. But he is big and cheeky. He loves his bed, but won't go in it if it is covered in cat hair. Then we have to wash his cover. Meanwhile, he sleeps in the humans' beds instead... hehehehehe
