Good Freday with Fred the Cat

Being that I’m a cat you can imagine my nervousness over this poison pet food recall. Pop checked my food and treats and none of the bad stuff was in any of it. Same goes for Murphy’s food and ND-Anna’s too. Whew! We were lucky. Now I hear that there is a possibility that some of the bad stuff might be in human food as well. None of this surprised me when I saw the following information.

“The FDA currently only examines 1.3% of all food imported into the United States, according to the Associated Press.”

So while you guys are removing your shoes and tossing out your shampoo before you board a plane, over 90% of the food coming into our country from other countries is not being inspected. Think about it.

Have a beautiful Easter weekend! Go easy on the chocolate Easter eggs and bunnies.

Sincerely,
Fred the Cat

Hi, Fred. We have heard that Neuman's Own makes a superior all-natural animal food that is not manufactured with other brands or produced with overseas ingredients.

PoP...

haven't been here for awhile.... just wanted to say that Rick and I went to the BIG liquor store in our area to stock up on wine.... He also picked up a couple bottles of Hendricks... it's the only gin he will drink now.... I instantly thought of you...

Glad to know all your pets are safe... mine are too...

Happy Easter...

Well, Fred, my cats were quite distressed to learn that their favorite food had rat poison in it. Of course we pulled it immediately. But Stella's food is OK.

I think I need to move to a mountaintop and grow my own damned food...make my own pet food as well.

Those are some beautiful Easter lilies!!! Nice counterpoint to the tainted food! A beautiful Easter weekend to you and your humans too!

Fred needs to go to Washington and make the case for more human food examinations. He might be a good lobbyist.

Fred also needs to pass legislation that requires the country of origin to be labeled on EVERY food product.

Chinese apple juice and peanuts, anyone? Don't laugh, this and much more are on every supermarket's shelves. Kroger and other's house brands are Chinese, but they have gotten wise and removed the source labeling. It's a crime or damned well should be.

Yeah, Fred I just noticed the other day when I was opening a pouch of Starkist tuna that it was packaged in Thailand of all places. How much do you want to bet it wasn't inspected.
All the more reason to shop at Whole Foods they seem to label pretty much everything with it's origin especially the produce, fish and meats.

What really surprised me about the petfood recall is how many named brands that one company makes. Yikes. How do you think they separate out the more expensive food from the cheaper versions? It's probably all in the labeling.

Have a great weekend, Fred.

oh fred, we lost our sunny cat to kidney failure in feb. he was 2 1/2. he ate only dry food.(a "high end" brand.) turns out it was on the bad list. we will not back down, when it comes to getting answers about our sweet and lovely boy. and i am quite glad that your food is okay.

this whole things just makes me want to provide my family with as much of our own, home-grown food as i possibly can. because our government obviously doesn't care what is in the foods they produce.

have a fine weekend, all.

Poisoned pet food, no inspections of imported foods, millions of jobs gone, ain't the WTO great! Sure was a good deal. Hope everybody has a great weekend and take good care of Fred and the rest of our companions.

I find it strange that they inspect this and not that. I see a conspiracy. they are using our fears to monipulate us. Now that they have completed that phase. it the next part showing their power over us.

Good gracious, Fred the Cat.

I'm glad your food and treats checked out okay. Since Purina wasn't on the original, and updated list, I hadn't thought about looking at the ingredients. My poor kitties. They probably think their mom isn't caring enough.

I never thought about the food coming into the country, not being inspected. I guess shampoos being transported on planes has higher risks.

Poor Fred! May you have a safe, happy, non-contaminated Easter. I know cats don't eat chocolate, but maybe Patricia will give you one of those gourmet cat food brands.

Hey Fred, Bob here... T.G. and I had a scare too... only... I DO have a kidney condition, and its onset was about the time of the food scare. I'm not sure if the fact that I didn't get it from the food is any consolation.

T.G.'s been sick too, but I think it was from some local chicken... who knows.

Good to hear you're well.
