Hope
To sooth your nervous soul today, I offer this from Miss Dickinson.
Hope is the Thing with Feathers
By: Emily Dickinson
"Hope" is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea,
Yet never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

There is no hope without action.
I know I will soothe my soul to day by voting, then avoiding any contact with the media at all today.
Kind of like Dick Cheney hunting Richard Perle today
Vote!
Ah, Emily...beautiful poem! I love the title..."hope is the thing with feathers..."
Is that why I chose the blogger persona that I did?
Hmmm...
I guess it makes me a little nervous--isn't Dick Cheney going hunting today?
Yes we need hope today.
sothis, I think things with feathers are safe from Cheney today, but not the rest of us, literally.
We need all the sweetness and light we can get in these brutal times. Thank you, PoP.
Thanks for the thoughts and poem. Everybody needs to push positive vibes into the force today. The universe deserves better than she is getting from us. Let's hope we can pass this test.
Beautiful! Love the inspirational words - what a nice way to start the day.
Thanks, POP!
OK,if you haven't yet, do it now (and often!).
Hope is the blue one.
Dickinson is nice, but a strong White Russian is better. God, I hope the Dems didnt fudge this one too.
Quote for the Vote:
“People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote - a very different thing.”
Walter H. Judd
Wow, I never connected Emily Dickensen and voting, thanks.
I saw a bumper sticker:
"I prayed, then I voted."
And I thought, I did it wrong, I voted, then I prayed.
I pray for South Dakota, that's where Cheney went hunting. I posted the press release on my blog.
I got an early start today. I woke up at 2 in the morn and went have breakfast at a 24 hour place. By 3 in the morn, I was hanging up an IMPEACH and getting the same rush that PT and the rest do. After I got the sign up, I made it no more than a mile down the road before I passed a cop. WooHoo!!
I got back home earlier from voting and took some pics of a huge sign that the neo-con running against Charlie Melancon, put up RIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT WHERE YOU GO TO VOTE!!! After I got back, I called up Melancon's office and gave them heads up on what Romero did.
We voted last week. Early voting is great, they should do it everywhere. I have equal amounts of hope and dread - like our yardful of various birds that were scared off or killed by one falcon. So hope is a feathered thing, sometimes the bird flies, sometimes just the feathers.
thanks i needed that - Vote for PEACE!
Wonderful, POP! Just what I needed to read.
That's sending good mojo to all the polling places!
I "hope" to see Rick "The Dick" Santorum and George "Monkey Man" Allen fall today ... just like one of Cheney's hunting companions.
A beautiful work by one of my favorite poets. Emily always helps those of us with, shall we say, shadowed outlooks. Thanks, PoP.
Yes, of course, I voted, last week in fact, but my "nervous soul" needs soothing today.
I got my rosary beads out of mothballs for the occassion.
On this Vote-Em-Out Tuesday...I am a HOPING!
But here at Dennis Hastert Corners I fully expect to wake up and ask that time honored question:
How F**King STUPID can X-Hundreds of folks actually BE!
But I am sill Hopeful for other part of my Nation! *smile*
Are you watching?
Love Emily...
Nice. I have to digest this one.
Have you read the great book witht he same name? It's about six or seven(?) extinct birds. It's a wonderful eulogy.
