Another Shame

After Katrina struck, “Allies offered $854 million in cash and in oil that was to be sold for cash. But only $40 million has been used so far for disaster victims or reconstruction, according to U.S. officials and contractors. Most of the aid went uncollected, including $400 million worth of oil.”

And
“And while television sets worldwide showed images of New Orleans residents begging to be rescued from rooftops as floodwaters rose, U.S. officials turned down countless offers of allied troops and search-and-rescue teams. The most common responses: "sent letter of thanks" and "will keep offer on hand," the new documents show.”
Washington Post quote

As if we needed more proof that this has to be the most incompetent administration of our life time, maybe ever. All sorts of gifts and offers and yet they still screwed it up and continue to until this day. If you add the lives lost after Katrina to the lives lost in Iraq, both American and Iraqi, that’s a lot of lives. So many lost at the hands of so few.

Definitely criminal...and I think criminal intent can be proven. They need to turn over all the emails for one. I'm sure there are damning emails for Katrina stuff.

The only thing this administration has proven itself good at is saying one thing, and doing another.

You would think that we are getting to a "last straw" moment, but the remaining 28% of approvers.....well you know.

We are reminded everyday of the sham of this administration. How come these criminals are still free? Incompetence, Fraud, Failure, over and over and over again. I cannot think of one positive thing that has been accomplished from this administration.

I can't believe 30% refuse to open their eyes and ears and realize they've been had.

I bet the Rethugs were hoping to steal the money and oil for themselves. They have not intention of helping others unless they can get rich doing it. Very sick group of people - kind of like a gang of terror thieves.

Sometimes I wish I lived closer to Washington DC, just so I could stand in front of the White House with a new protest sign everyday. There is not one thing that this administration has done, not a single policy that benefitted the vast majority of Americans. I often don't know what to do with my rage.

The good news is that with each new revelation of incompetence and greed this administration and the conservative thugs who run it are building a dossier that we will be able to point to for years and say "See what happens when you let these people into government."

I'm glad I don't love closer to Washington. There a fellow could get shot for peeing on a Bush. :-(

Seriously, given the racial makeup of New Orleans at the time, I think Bush viewed Katrina as divine assistance.

I agree with what nick (Mem Beth) had to say.

One other thing is, how can this man and his base really call themselves Christians and treat people as if they are not part of God's creation.

How can a man say he's President of a country, send his people off to fight a made up war for control over oil for the Oil companies, then allow his citizens to face tragedy in the worse way and not even accept the help that others offer?

What manner of man is this, could Satan have done any better?

This administration's heartless cynicism is criminal. How they could turn away aide from allies is beyond understanding - except they wanted to "bleach" New Orleans. The poorer, Black wards will not be rebuilt.

Over the weekend I saw "Jesus Camp", and the blind support Evangelicals give this administration is chilling. Bush wants us isolated and afraid.

The last lines of One Hundred Years Of Solitude sums up what I fear is happening here:

"...races condemned to one hundred years of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth.”

The UK sent lots of food to help, but it was trashed. They said it was because it contained beef. But they destroyed all the non-beef stuff too, just the whole lot.

Hey ho.
