Screwed up Priorities…..Big Time!

During the past few weeks we saw the cable news channels devote almost an entire day to the live coverage of the Anna Nicole court case. Just about everyday since we have seen updates over and over on this non story. This is like the never ending story that no one but the people involved in it give a good damn about. But the cable news channels have plenty of time to cover it.

Yesterday, the former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, testified before congress about global warming. Did anyone except C-span3 cover it live as it happened?

The cable news channels have plenty of time to devote to a dead wanna-be starlet, but no time to devote to the live coverage of a major global issue?

No wonder this country is so screwed up!

I guess, there are things that the private sector doesn't do better, eh?

Amen, PoP. That's the main reason I shut the cable off in our house. My children know that if they want to know the truth about the goings-on in the world, they have to get it from sources other than the "Idiot Box", as my father used to rightly call it.

They don't call it the "boob tube" for nothing!

Amazing, one doesn't have to purchase those crazy trash papers at the store anymore, they get it all on tv.

What a Nation we've become! ; (

The more mindless and sensational the better for cable news. It appears that the audience they are trying to reach are the ones that don't want to be challenged into thinking about serious subjects such as Global Warming and would rather wallow in the dumbed down gutter with the likes of Britney and Nicole. I think it is has something to do with being able to live vicariously through these sad public disasters and his somehow similar to the crowds attracted to auto accidents and such.

If Al had only ripped open his shirt and exposed one nipple, just one mind you, he would have around the clock coverage for weeks.

The media elite will never cover any topic like this that will cost Corporate America money.

Corporate America saves their money to buy votes in Congress.

I saw not a thing about this on any news station. I did, however, learn that the paternity of Anna Nicole's baby would finally be resolved soon! I can't tell you how relieved I was to hear that.

Coffeemessiah, Boob tube? Hahahahahahah. What a great catch. I'll be chuckling the restof the morning.(I'm pretty easily amused.)

For those of you under the delusion that news channels are in business to report the news, they aren't. They're in the business of making money by selling crap - they'll run anything that they thinks draws more sponsors than it drives away. Apparently ANS draws more viewers than Al does. (While she was certainly drug addled and probably crazy, she was eye candy for red blooded 'merican males and a fascinating story for the trailer set.)

It is why people are so uninformed. They don't have to search the depths of the media for information. Barely listening I learned there would finally be a paternity test for A.N.'s baby. What information could my mind be casually receiving if the media practiced responsible journalism.

I don't watch TV news unless I'm somewhere it is on.

This country is not only screwed up, it's plum crazy. A well meaning experiment gone wrong. And I don't see anyone trying to correct it in the right ways.

Left and right are both wrong. Moderation doesn't much exist anymore. It's just struggles between two extremes.

Why should network news have more reasoned priorities than we have as a society? If we continue to buy the drivel that they shovel, why should they change? And don't even get me started on Faux News, which deserves it's own special category of shame.

If it was just market driven, perhaps I could excuse it. It seems to me long past time in this country where there's a large demographic that longs for real news.

The truth is that teh corporate princes have bought up all the news outlets, and have trashed the newsrooms on purpose. The excuse is that the stockholders demand more and more, and the courts uphold their right to profit. Excuse me if I don't really believe that. They could easily make a case for excellent news coverage, especially now that TV is a news wasteland.

Good catch, PoP. When we heard that Gore was testifying, we checked CSpan 1 and 2 on our boob tube. Nada. I guess the owners can't keep the idiot citizens mollified with pictures of Al Gore. It used to be "if it bleeds, it leads" Now it's "if it's got big breasts, never give it a rest."

If the lumpen proletariat of this country wanted "real news" (and the definition of "real" is subject to serious questioning in a post-modern scenario), the media organs would be tripping over themselves to provide it if, and only if,the ratings were there. All of this is no longer about "truth", "journalism" or "reality"; those are archaic terms no longer pertinent to the Age of Hyper-Capitalism.

So who's the father of Anna Nicole's baby?

Blogger Geoffrey Milder said...

I fail to see how you can even compare the two. For one, Anna Nicole has (had) MUCH bigger breasts than Al Gore.

Bread and circuses, and they're about ready to charge more for the bread. As somebody said earlier, the corporate media is in business to sell crap and not to give us the truth. As Ed Murrow said; "nothing but lights and wires in a box."

There cannot be worthwhile, honest news on commercial television . . .

. . . but if there was, Al Gore's testifyin' might have been followed up by a good and critical look at his record on environmental issues. I know it's not right to shoot the messenger, but what, for example, is the Apple Computer board member doing to turn the most toxic computer company green?

Hi I know this isn't the sort of place to ask for things like this but I couldn't find a contact link :/

I've been reading your blog for awhile and would like to do a blog link trade with you.

The address is:
http://ajapaneseandchinesemajor.aznaddict.com

I understand the name is ridiculously long, so if you would like the text link to just be "AZNaddict" that would be fine.
Please let me know when you've added the link and I will add yours too.
Good luck with your work!

Best,

Ryan

I don't think it's just the boob size--even if Al Gore had big boobs, he still wouldn't be paid attention to.

Rather, it is the combination of big breasts with a small brain. That way they know they're covering a safe subject.

No wonder, indeed!

The word Liberal is finally regaining its luster, but Regulation from a rational, sustainable and multifaceted perspective is still considered some sort of anathema greater than military "casualties".

If the MSM were regulated by anything but Capital & ratings concerns... The 4th Estate is NOT supposed to be Theater, nor Commerce.
