Happy Valentine’s Day, To You, My Honeys!

This orchid is living on my patio even as you read this and I think it’s beautiful. Home grown beauty indeed.

Sure, I love the flowers and candy and cards that come with Valentine’s day. I’m a sucker for such things. I still have the Valentine card my grandmother gave me when I was a very little girl. This love of Valentines day has been with me for a long time.

Having said all that, do you know what the best part about today might be? It means the end of the all too frequently repeated commercials for pajama grams and Vermont Teddy Bears, at least for this season. I sure won’t miss them one bit.

I'm a sucker for Valentine's Day too, Pop.

At least they don't bring out the Chia Pet commercials...or do they?

I agree, those Vermont Teddy bears actually made my mouth drop, I couldn't believe people would buy those things!

Thanks for your comments. I've added your blog to my list of informative blogs!

I still have the first valentine a received in elementary school from a boy. He wrote I Love You on the back and then scratched it out. I could still see it.

I'm not so big on V-Day. But what an awesome orchid!!! I am a sucker for those.

I must really be out of it, because I have no idea what those Vermont Teddy Bears are. Sounds like something I need to google.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, PoP. We don't celebrate the day here at Chez Bum with cards or chocolates or flowers. Just a nice day to remember love.

What a beautiful orchid.

how sweet you are! Happy day to you too! [[thanks for the encouraging words, too]]

My hubby left one of his big $5.00 cards he gets me every year setting on the table. He goes out every year & finds the biggest, mushiest most expensive card he can. He agonizes over the card rack reading then all looking for just the right one. i love that more then any he could do!

PoP,
Had a lovely (but all too brief) visit to FL. Didn't get to go to Bern's - was after 9 by the time we got checked in, but we'll be back and will hit it next time.

Hope you & Mr.PoP have a good evening together - I'd mix up some kind of reddish martini then go, well, you know.

That's one beautiful orchid, PoP - absuolutely stunning.

I personally hate Valentine's Day. I've always considered it a thumb of the nose by the "haves" toward the "have nots" - and refuse to participate even when enjoying the affection of a "significant other". Too many PDA's by the "haves" when I was younger and "Honey-less" have left me with a sour taste in my mouth for the entire fiasco.

Enjoy your day, though.

And that's a beautiful orchid. Almost makes me wish I didn't have a Black Thumb ...

What a beauty! I'm all for love and encouraging it in any form be it romantic or otherwise. It's probably the only thing that stands between us and unfathomable destruction. So think of love and enjoy.

I am also a sucker for wonderful blossoms like that (and my favorite color!), especially if they are still attached to the roots! We exchange cards, and the cats give us each a card (now when do they have time to shop? hee hee), and that's pretty much the whole celebration.

I saw a hersey kiss commercial. The first time I paid it no mind. The second I realized how little I see commercial for hersey kisses. Marketing what a thing indeed.

I bought an orchid for my mom and another myself this year for Vday... they are beautiful. Something very serene about them... and fragile. I think that's what attracts me to buying them even though inevitably they die within two weeks. I'm an official orchid-killer at this point.

Can't say I enjoy Vday all that much. Seems a bit commercialized, and fake... huge pressure on men and even worse on women who get their hopes up expecting one thing and get something else from their mates. Sort of makes me glad I have a good guy that knows me well and always gets it right. Feel kind of bad for the rest though...

Culturally, I have been raised, such as it was, not knowing the Vday. The past decade or so, some sort of Vday mutation has crept in and it's called Friendship Day. Might be an attempt to make it more inclusive if not politically correct, I suppose. However, I take this opportunity to blodly wish you a happy Vday, my friend!
