Self Inflicted Pain

Big decision to make. Which would be more painful, hammering nails into my eyes and ears or watching The State of Conservatism, National Review Institute, Saturday on C-span? Because there are times when I do like to suffer to the max, I watched the C-span program.

There were five women on the program. There was Mona Charen, Michelle Malkin, Kay O’Beirne, Laura Ingram, and the emcee, Kathryn Lopez, who is the editor of the National Review online. How’s that for a fine panel of female conservatives?

I’m not going to quote any one of them, but instead I’ll tell you what I heard. I heard all of them at one time or another go all damp over the fact that Michelle Malkin had made a trip to Iraq and what wonderful coverage she has been doing on the war. I don’t know where they were keeping the barf bags, but they must have been somewhere close.

Most of what each of them said was that oh damn, Hillary is running and the Democrats are all so wrong etc, etc, etc. Only Laura Ingram came up with a few sane lines. The one that stuck out the most was when she said that if the Democrats had adopted a pro-life position by 08, it would be a total nightmare for the Republican party. Listen to what she said. She’s basically saying that the pro-life platform is all the Republicans have going for them in the next election cycle. Wow, that’s quite an admission, huh?

Most of the time Mona Charen was acting like she was the only one in the know. Kay O’Beirne was trying to be clever and messing with her hair way too much. Michelle was looking all pouty and confused. Bless her heart. I guess that trip to Iraq took something out of her. What a little patriot she is.

The emcee of the show, Ms. Lopez drove me freakin’ crazy messing with her clip on microphone and trying to be clever and cool. She may be a good or even great writer, I have no idea. I do know she should stay the hell away from TV cameras. They aren’t her friend. She’s neither clever nor cool. She was more irritating than any of the other women who were on the program and that’s saying a whole hell of a lot. She had some serious harpy competition.

Yes, I do plan a trip to a therapist to see why in the hell I punish myself this way. Viewing that program was some serious kind of mental, visual and aural torture. I did however find it funny that they took one another so seriously. I just don’t know why.

I would consider therapy if I were you, I couldn't watch a show like that even if I was on tranquilizers.

Even I watch stuff like that just to keep up on how far in right field they really are at the moment. One does have to keep up with what they are spewing out so as to be properly informed when one wants to do the bash properly and truthfully. I admit Malkin's cutseypooness really gets my goat though...it is a genuine trial of nerves for me to listen to her.

Personally, I throw shoes at the TV in similar circumstances, but that's just my little way of coping. Damned expensive way to cope though.

Maybe I'll start throwing flip-flops.

Have you tried toothpicks under the fingernails? It is much more fun than watching a gaggle of conservative hens like that spew their hate. Ann Coulter must have been busy biting the heads off baby chicks or she would have been there too.

I didn't watch it, but I find the yelling to be cathartic -although it does scare the dog and the Prince and annoys the Queen. Oh, well. Anyway, Kate O'Beirn doesn't need to worry about her hair - at the end of the day, she's still unattractive. While I don't know anything about the background of the others, Laura Ingraham is a lawyer, used to be fairly middle of the road and occasionally drops the Gooper line and applies logic, something few of the looney right am talkies ever do.

Just reading the names of the people on the panel caused me severe pain. Thank goodness it didn't include the queen-bee of the wingnuts Ann Coulter or you might have gone truly insane!

I would have never taken you for a masochist. Just thinking about seeing those women together can give me nightmares. Maybe it was a temporary condition, and now that you have seen the right-wing female belief tank chorus, you have fully recovered and will no longer be compelled to hurt yourself like that again. We could start a support group. We can take turns watching these shows and report back, the others will be ready with the soothing balm of sanity.

OMFG!! You got to see Subic Sally! I wonder if she really went to Iraq or just Kuwait and pretended. That fav bargirl of mine is such a tease! What a lil minx she is.

BTW Ass-nonymous, You have to do better than that. I have half a mind to put my combat boot so far up your ass that you will taste the polish for months after. Be sure to pick up your arms on the way out now. I do hate the sound of dragging knuckles on the floor!

I've never understood why any of these "commentators" has any credibility whatsoever. I always wonder where the heck they came from and how they suddenly started appearing on Cable.

Pop,

I had the misfortune to meet Ms. Charen. She is not only "holier than thou", she is "better than thou". There are few public figures I have ever met who were more snobbish or intentionally mean.

I'm not sure they take themselves as seriously as they want us to believe, when they're on the tube, but the scary part is, they are so damn dumb it really doesn't matter. When they wake up, this country is under attack.

JM (I think it was) It seems Ann Coulter has worn out her welcome on the wrong wing stage, doesn't it?:)

Trolls are like bad farts, guys. Ignore them, and eventually they go away.

Ahhh I'm so glad my unwilligness to watch that paid off.

Poor you though! Hideous women.

Hmm you're either an optimist or a masochist.

Or just trying to see everyone's side.

That's a good thing, too bad the other side is filled with idiots.

I worry about people who take pond scum like Michelle Malkin seriously.

You are very brave indeed. I would not recommend you subject yourself to such torture. Research suggest that for every hour of right wing tool TV you watch, you lose an hour off your life span.

I know many people who vote Republican because of the gun issue and or abortion issue. In fact that is the only reason that most of them vote republican. That and they are "afraid" of terrorist.

I believe a unique medal should be cast for this one momentous occasion.

While the rest of us dithered and made excuses -

"I can't do it, I have to see to my hair!", and, "Well, dear, I'm sorry but Clarence is bringing the pastor round for supper! Otherwise......"

- you quietly slipped away without a word and, like Daniel, stepped straight into the lion's den.

"Quel courage, mon brave" -as the French say. You leave us breathless with admiration.
