Catapulting Happy Faces

By now we have all heard that the US is still paying to put happy face stories in the Iraqi newspapers. It’s one more lame attempt to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis.

Okay, lets say you’re an Iraqi in Iraq. Yesterday half your family was blown all to hell as they shopped at the market. Your heart is forever broken and your life will never be the same. You glance at the newspaper this morning and you read that the soldiers from the US completed painting a school yesterday in a town somewhere in your country. That story is not going to do much to heal your broken heart, is it?

We invaded that country for whatever actual reasons, no one really knows. We have been, if not the direct source every time, at least a contributing causation of so incredibly many deaths. There is no damned happy face story planted or otherwise that will gloss over what this war has cost the people of Iraq. I doubt they think of Americans as liberators any longer, if they ever did. Probably now they think of us as people who barge in, take over, and bring death to their loved ones.

We may be able to place happy face stories in Iraqi newspapers but we can’t place happy faces on the Iraqi people. It's much too late for that.

Would You like to be a Senator?
The United States Sim is a fun simulation of our government with executive, legislative and judiciary branches. We are the Democratic Party from that simulation. We have a constitution based upon the real world US Constitution. Our online Congress is very similar to the real world as we have political parties and debates, committees where legislation and budget issues are worked out. We have a Senate Floor where members follow Senate Rules and parliamentary procedure as we perform official senate business. We have a cloakroom where senators can mix and search out co-sponsors for bills and discuss the issues of the day. We have party caucuses where we set our legislative agenda, develop policy and discuss our strategy. Each of these activities are held in separate restricted yahoo groups so that only the authorized members have access.
The USASIM is fun on one hand but also very challenging and educational. We are all familiar with political discussion groups but this is an entire new dimension, as it is interactive and rewarding to get things accomplished through the process and it and builds a spirit of teamwork.
This does not have to take up a lot of time, really it would be up to you to decide your level of participation. The opportunities will be there for you to get deeply involved if you wish. We only require that you check in and vote when there are important bills in the senate. You would be given notice and they are not frequent.
If you are a Democrat and wish to be a Senator in the USASIM apply for membership here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/usasim_demrecruit/

I agree... unless we impeach Bush and bring him to trial for war crimes. Then I think we'd put a smile on most of their faces.

Also POP,

If your a Sunni and your child was killed but unreported elsewhere becuase well your a Sunni and its collatoral damage, does looking at a picture of American GI's with Shiate children make you happy?

Or does it build up resentment for the Americans and the Shiaites at the same time?

So very true. And yes, so very, very late.

It's like trying to paint a happy face on a corpse - it just doesn't LOOK right.

If any of these assholes had any sense of decency, they'd kill themselves out of shame.

Bush has been doing so many 'happy face' transplants that Uncle Sam is beginning to look like Michael Jackson.

It's like a kid getting a beating and told not to cry and to smile - that is the mentality of the Bu$h thugs.
