Turtle Soup?
Well, not exactly. This little box turtle comes to my back door every morning and shares the cat food I leave out there for Fred the Cat’s little stray girlfriend cat, N-D Anna. Sunday morning was no different. He crawled up to the little blue plastic bowl and managed, as he always does to tip the bowl over slightly so that he can reach his head in and munch on cat food.
As I opened the door behind him, it startled him and he tried to move forward. Unfortunately for him, he ended up the way you see him here. He sucked himself into his shell, probably out of embarrassment. I grabbed my camera, got this shot and then watched as he tipped the bowl forward and made his escape.
Who says that Mother Nature has no sense of humor?

N-D Anna? Now that's special...
Wish we had a few turtles here, but the multitude of highways, roads and SUVs filled with cell-phone addicts have about killed them all off. Cripes, I hate this filthy state, and how I miss the old Florida.
Oh my! I love that photo!!! And the story that goes with it.
Thank you PoP!!
We need a lolz for this.
Cute PoP. The good news is that he managed to get out all by his or herself.
Heh heh. At least he didn't get stuck!
Poor turtle
he does look like soup there.
I can just imagine him slinking off into the grass thinking "OMG, she got a photo, I'll NEVER live this down!"
i love it. we have box turtles and some truly mean tempered snapping turtles here.
My hubby has a box turtle he has been playiing with for over a year. I keep telling him to let it go, but no, he cant! do grown men ever stop being little boys!
For that turtle, the only thing worse would have been to flip on his back as he did his dismount from the bowl.
I thought it was funny when the tufted titmice come up on our porch to snatch dry cat food, but the turtle is hysterical!
What beautiful markings. He looks like an Aesthetic Period turtle.
Awesome! Box turtles are getting more and more rare "in the wild," so it's good to see one hanging out in your backyard. Probably likes to watch Fred through the window too.
I LOVE this!
The idea of an embarrassed turtle is intriguing. Does anyone besides me remember Martin Milner, who was on the television show, Route 66? - Well, Martin Milner looked a little like a bewildered turtle.

Slow and steady gets the catfood?
Thats obviously not Yertle the turtle if he eats cat food!
Hi POP, just stopped by to say I enjoy your posts, and also your comments on Crooks and Liars quite a bit. I comment on C&L as Yill on occasion. (Addictive blog that)
Thanks, Cheers, Billy
Turtles do the darndest things. :)
Yep. I'm still alive and, somewhat, kickin', PoP. Seeing you'd left a comment, even on a sad 'toon, brought a big ol' smile to my face.
See ya!
Great picture!
One time we were vacationing at Cape Cod and riding our bikes and came across a box turtle in the middle of a busy road. We picked him up and carried him, riding our bikes at a good clip, into the woods on the bike trail and released him there where it was safer. That was probably as fast as he'd ever gone in his life!
A fitting punishment for the turtle.
I wish I were that pretty :-)
Poor Fred- turtles hogging all his food...
Ha! The Box Turtle is now a Bowl Turtle!
I said we needed a lolz, and now we have one.
