Here it is the Fifth, how was your Fourth?

Yesterday was a laid back day here at the Pop home. Even Fred the Cat was unusually lazy.

It was quiet until about three in the afternoon when the fireworks purchasers just couldn’t wait any longer and started shooting off stuff. One guy was shooting something that went weeeeeee and then POP. Nothing to write home about. The bizarre thing was the people who bought the big time fireworks started shooting theirs. These were the kind that go high into the air and then put out pretty little lighted sparks that do tricks. Of course since it was daylight so there wasn’t much of a show. You could see the smoke, but that was about it. I think there’s a reason these things should be used after dark.

At about three thirty, Mother Nature said, You want to hear loud noises? You want to see bright lights? Well, watch this. We had one hell of a thunder storm and about three inches of rain in the next hour or so. Mom Nature loves a challenge. She’ll win every time.

So how was your holiday? What did you do?

Goood Morning! We also had a wonderful thunderstorm followed by fireworks. I was glad we got the rain first so the fireworks didn't set fire to the state.

I lsitened to the fireworks go off, and thought of the citizens of Iraq, who hear these noises on a daily basis, the difference being that when they hear explosions in Iraq, most assuredly someone has died.

I drove to the top of Horsetooth mountain and sat for a couple of hours looking down over the water, and out toward the Rocky Mountains.

That was America.

Lazy day in Atlanta for some of us but for 55,000 or so it was the Peachtree Road Race. No rain but they did do the fireworks in spite of threats to cancel them due to the drought. As far as I can see nothing burned down.

Pretty decent day here in Michigan, spent visiting friends and consuming mass quantities of beer. Yes I DID have a designated driver.

They cancelled our fireworks until tonight but it doesn't seem the weather will be much better.

We did the usual, you know we drank all day, shot at the house staff with high powered rifles and laughed as they dodged bullets, drove our Hummers down into the inner city and and taunted the poor, you know, the usual.

We stayed home and got the house ready for the real estate agent who's coming today to take a look around.

Whenever I hear local firecrackers and bottle rockets and the distant booming of big firework displays, I always think of war.

Glad you had some rain there.

Went to see Bruce Willis Die Hard 4, then listened to neighborhood backyard fireworks until midnight with a houseful of unhappy cats.

I'm about to post on what I heard yesterday. OMFG! Fireworks are illegal in this parish, but that didn't stop it from sounding like a war zone after the storms passed!

meandered around the BBQ, which I dont necessarily consider that tough for my cooking skills. Watched Fireworks on TV because we got 8 hours of rain too.

I was surprised to find out that 2 of my neighbors (both less than a hundred yards away from my house) started shooting off BIG (commercial type) fireworks about 9:45 PM. It's a good thing I like fireworks, it was almost scary.

I sat in my yard, saw a good show, had fire ashes falling on me and my yard, saw the cops show up, and then it was very quiet the rest of the night.

Baked an apple pie, took it to a party, laughed a lot, ate too much, and was awakened in the middle of the night by my daughter calling to tell me Ellie Bean has a cold.

So I got to have a midnight chat with my grandbaby!

From the Living Planet section of Signs-of-the-Times: "Huge Wave Hits Daytona Beach Fireworks Barge, Cancels Show".
"A huge wave in Daytona Beach, Fla., crashed over a fireworks barge Wednesday night, forcing officials to cancel the city's annual Fourth of July show.
"Officials said the wave hit the barge before 9 p.m. and washed more than half of the pyrotechnics off the vessel and into the water."

(Make mine with Beefeaters. Tanqueray is OK too.)

pop,
your day sounds a lot like the one at the pogo homestead - only the fireworks started the night of the 3rd - and the fireworks show from Mom started about 7:30 - but then quickly went away so that we could watch more of the man made kind until about 10:00. Plus we lazed around the pool and had chicken & corn for dinner - a traditional 4th.

Watched it rain. Thought about retaking the country. Wondered why more people were not more upset about the Scooter Pass. Wondered if Fitzgerald could call him back in front a new grand jury and ask him if he lied earlier with the certain knowledge that there would be no jail and a pardon in January 2009.

Well,
Fireworks give me the creeps but I watch them anyway, so last night we stood on the deck and watched the show from the park. We also ate carry-out. That was about it. One of my kitties, a nuisance cat they call her type, banged on the door to be let in and it was so loud I am thinking she was flinging her body against the door, but I will never know.

Hi P-O'd Pat! Neil here. Spent the 4th rising from the dead. Some bastard in Thailand stole my corpse so, although my name's the same, my URL had to be shortened to http://nshakespeare.blogspot.com. All explained over there. It had a lot to do with getting really drunk after the Dem's caved to Bush on Iraq...Hope all's well with you. Best, Neil....

My youngest son, two of the great-granddaughters and I spent the afternoon with friends enjoying barbecue, swimming (the girls and my son) and card playing. Nice to have someone else doing the work for a change.

Missed the local fireworks but caught the display from Boston. I looked for San Francisco's but if they televised it, I couldn't find it.

I know I should hate fireworks because of what they stand for but part of me is still a kid, I guess.
