Shaken or Stirred?
Good Friday morning to you
Are you shaken or stirred about something? Let's talk about it. What should be the headline today?

Good Morning PoP - I'm waiting to hear Heckofajob Brownie on C-Span right now. He's supposed to testify to the Senate about Katrina.
Brownie gets my vote. Of course the Liberty (Library) Tower thing and and USAPA compromise are also potential fodder.
What the hell happened to Brownie's hair this morning? He won't get into GQ looking like that.
We do have a lot of piles of do-do to deal with today, don't we?
Brownie looks like he didn't get much sleep...
PoP - There're so many scandals happening at once I'm having trouble keeping up with them.
Wow!! They're actually getting sworn in.
Bowman - What a bunch of jackasses!
Um. PoP, how come I have to type in letters to prove I'm not a bot to comment here?
Here is what is stirring me up.

So it looks like about 50% of the american public is onboard with no warrant evesdropping. I guess nobody remembers learning about the Constitution and Bill of Rights in 6th Grade. The politics of fear trumps the 4th Amendment which reads:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
And how did my comment get put before Bowman's?
Auntie, that word verification deal is to keep automatic ad spam stuff from filling the comments section with ads. If it wasn't on there might be catchy little comments with links that would take the reader to some crap selling site. So it's for the commenter's protection too. Sadly, it will not deter trolls. Happily the trolls haven't found me yet.
As for why your comment came up where it did, I'll have to leave that to greater minds than my own. Remember, I'm a natural blond.
Bowman, I don't think they even teach that stuff in schools anymore. No one seems to care about anything except keeping a terrorist out from under the bed. So sad that all those soldiers died a long time ago for our freedom and liberty only to have it flushed down in the name of, Oh I'm so freakin' scared of the boogie man.
POP,
Actually they do, my son just did a project on the Bill of Rights, 6th Grade. While we were watching the Daily Show he commented that he thought the wirtapping violated the 4th. He is one smart kid.
bowman, we share the same concern. When I was in law school, I had a con law teacher, ex-navy Vietnam fighter jock, John Paul Jones - really, who bemoaned the loss of rights under the 4th, 5th & 6th amendments in the 80s. It would be interesting to talk with him now and see what his perspective is. I think this does not bode well for Dem. prospects in November. While political alchemy is much more complex than a poll about attitudes toward eavesdropping on Americans, the WH is winning in the court of public opinion on an issue that has fear mongering trumping a loss of constitutionally guaranteed freedom. Frankly, it scares hell out of me.
Patricia,
Here's one, that I linked from on Jesus' General. The British news organ The Independent writes that an Israeli firm (with the backing of the government there and the Simon Wiesenthal Center out in California) is getting ready to build a "Museum of Tolerance."
Sounds great, right?
Well, it would be, if the site they were planning on bulldozing WASN'T A THOUSAND YEAR OLD MUSLIM CEMETERY!!!!
Sorry, got carried away there.
PoP! Good grief, no one told me you went solo!
Um....we could talk about how Bush is trotting out four year old terror plots to justify his domestic spy program, failing to note all this was handled in Indonesia WITHOUT wire taps...
Wow, it's so good to see so many familiar cyber faces. I've missed you guys so much! Carl, after leaving BS I took a time out for a bit. Then yesterday I jumped in the deep end of blog world by myself and without a life preserver. So far, so good. The water is fine. I have you guys to help keep me afloat. Thank you!
Thanks for the explanation about the spambots. I noticed that Driftglass uses a spam trap to deal with them.
