Fred the Cat and a new word I learned this week, “flu”

As you guys may know, I have only lived with humans a few years. There are lots of human terms I have learned over these years, but this past week I learned a new word, “flu”. I’m not sure what it is but I sure do know what it looks and sounds like.

Seems Pop has had this “flu”. From what I can tell it makes your hair look all funny and unkempt. It apparently prevents one from using any cosmetics and it requires the wearing of night clothes both night and day.

It also seems it requires one to cough and sneeze continuously. Tissues must be kept at close hand at all times. Folks, I’m telling you, this is not a pretty scene.

Due to Mr. Pop having to be away this week due to a previously scheduled business trip, Pop had to deal with this flu and taking care of Murphy, ND Anna and me. Lots to deal with but she did it pretty well. Because of Murphy’s age there are times when he can be a canine mental patient. For example, within about ten minutes of eating, Murphy forgets he has eaten and begins to whine for his food, loudly, aggressively and persistently. This can grind on your nerves even if you feel just fine. Pop wasn’t feeling just fine, but even her little canine mental patient didn’t throw her over the edge.

I’m not sure what is going on now but I did hear her say she thought her fever had broken. I take it that’s a good sign. I think this because if it wasn’t for her feeling some better I don’t think I would have been able to post this piece.

The first hint we had this week that things might be returning to normal was when we all heard the following from Pop. She yelled, “Is there some fucking rule that states that Condi Rice must wear drab greens and browns every damn time she visits another country?” That sounded like the return of the old Pop to us.

She asked me to thank you guys for all your healing suggestions and good wishes. That just might have been what helped.

As a cat, I don’t know much but I do know that this “flu” can sure wreck havoc on a erstwhile neat and tidy human. This stuff is bad news and hopefully it’s in Pop’s rearview mirror for a long time to come.

Have a great weekend and hopefully Pop will be back on a regular basis come Monday.

Just a warning, Fred. When there is this thing called the state of the union speech on T.V. take cover! THAT will be an ugly scene.

Darling Fred, The best cure for the Flu is to wear garlic, in a pair of dirty panty hose, around your neck, it'd guarenteed to cure what ails you, from Consumption to Dropsy to Menopause, you can't beat it for results!

I would listlessly look at bloglines on a daily basis - no PoP. That was rough going. Glad you are back up and feeling a lot better. We have missed you. P.S. Condi was told not to wear blood red as it might be seen as critical of Bush and his war.

I don't pay much attention to Condi Lice.

Something here is making us sneeze, even the cats. But it doesn't seem to be the flu or a cold.

Maybe it's her lice. Hum.

Glad PoP is doing a little better. Flu is a nasty little thing and not something to take lightly. Unfortunately the world doesn't stop when the flu comes to town which makes it that much more miserable.

Thanks for passing on the good news about Pop's recovery, Fred! We have all missed her!

Maybe Condi would be willing to mix it up with some green and brown plaids or floral patterns?

Glad to hear your humans are getting better. It's hard when their sick, so much worrying.

You need to learn to step on the big red button on the remote when the politics comes on. I've seen that crap do much mental damage to humans, turn it off.

About your comment on my blog. Obama would destroy Bush in an IQ test. Bush would fall to his knees from the wrath of Obama's superior IQ.

Hi Fred, Ginger here and glad too hear your humans are doing better. That flu thing is really nasty sometimes. Me I just had another visit to the vet this past monday. My human has me on a special diet food, Hills MD because I'm so fat and lazy. He had too take me back to so they could check my weight as I was 23.6 lb's when I went in for my yearly checkup and shots.

It seems I only lost only a tenth of a lb in the last three weeks. Now they only want him to feed me about a half a cup a day. I heard him tell the doctor that he wasn't going to starve me and that he thought I was just a big cat, if he only knew. Anyway, I doubt he will cut my food to much, he does really love my and accepts me for how I am and not how the vet thinks I should be. I'm sure that if he really thought that I was liable to get sick he wouldn't hesitate to feed me less. Like I said, I know he loves me and I'm sure your humans love you just as much as you love them.

Keep on eye on them and if it looks like there flu is coming back let them know how much you care for them and get them to the doctor before they get too sick.

Stay well and have a good week.

God Bless you.

"Is there some fucking rule that states that Condi Rice must wear drab greens and browns every damn time she visits another country?"

Having never noticed that before, I commenced laughing so uncontrollably that I became aware of hitting the floor before falling out of my seat. I'm okay.

Glad to hear that you're okay, too...

Hey,
Fred,
Ask Pop why it is that Condi wears those colors, but somehow, when she is in a foreign country her brow wrinkles go away but when she is testifying before the congress in the US she gets all snarly and has a gazillion wrinkle in her brow.

Hey,
Fred, tell Mrs. PoP that she did the best thing possible for her flu, she avoided cosmetics (terrible for flu) and she wore night time clothes in the daytime, (great for flu) and she held on well when Murphy pretended he hadn't been fed.

Fred,
Give Mrs. PoP a big hug from me.

Fred,
You are one cute & delightful kitty. Thank you for the update on POP. I hope she's feeling a lot better. I hope you help her out, too. Now, don't be winding around her feet when she's trying to stand. And don't go sitting behind her feet when she's getting ready to step back. I know those are fun activities, but take it from someone who has cats, sometimes, a human's weight causes pain.

Fred, be sure and tell PoP I am SOOOOO glad to be back online (NO INTERNET during our HORRID ICE STORM) and reading your stories.
Take care of her, and I am relieved to hear that she's returning to normal by yelling about our *cough* fave Condi. I'm hacking up hairballs over here, Fred.

Hi Fred and PoP....
Sorry to blog whore, but I thought you might be interested in this.

See my latest post on my site about the death of Barney. At least one more update, maybe two for the full story so you will need to check back a few times to read it all.

Also anyone else who's interested is welcome.

God Bless.

Fred, ask PoP if Condi Rice is a "green-shirt" or a "brown-shirt". That might explain her choice of greens and browns. The former term is described here:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Greenshirt

The latter is described here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmabteilung

Find out which color Condi prefers most. Somehow, I suspect "brown shirt" is her preference.

BTW, Baby Mackie says "Hi" and that he hopes your owner gets better soon! He hates it when I get sick. When I'm sick I'm glad he is there, because he is a great little companion.
