You Write the Last Line

Let’s say you get a personal call from Jim Webb’s speech writer today. He tells you he needs a closing line for Webb’s rebuttal speech tonight, the speech he’ll give after the chimp gives his State of the Union Speech. Webb’s speech writer asks you to write this closing line and make it a statement that encapsulates all the sentiments of the Americans who oppose bush’s handling of the war. You’ll want to leave a lasting impact with this statement. This also has to be something that can actually be read across the airwaves. Go for it!

***
Just a little personal note. I may have lied to you guys when I said yesterday that I would watch the SOTUS tonight. I didn’t lie on purpose I just spoke before realizing the speech would be given at nine o’clock. As of late I am sleeping when I can, not when most normal people sleep. So I am restating my ambition. I will watch the speech if I’m awake, otherwise I’ll have to depend on the sound bites we will all see and hear ad nauseam tomorrow.

And finally, the good news. I’m sure the healing process will be enhanced by two things that I now have. I have a small Ball jar filled with Brach’s candy Conversation Hearts. I also have another small Ball jar filled with Valentine M&Ms. Let the pigging out begin!

"It's time our country take responsibility for our actions overseas,
and to bring back good will and common sense to our own country.
We realize our country has been neglected for 4 years due to a
War that no one wants and shouldn't have been waged in the first place.
The people have spoken and this president refuses to listen.
For these reasons and more, Impeachment is imperative."

I'm not a good writer, but that's how I feel.....

D'oh! That was going to be my last line!
How about (in the voice of Jim Webb) "Many people's father's, mothers, sister, brothers and children, including my own son, have made sacrifices to protect the failed legacy that is the president's Iraq policy, and yet we keep being asked to make more sacrifices. When will Mr. Bush sacrifice his legacy so that America may move onwards towards being the great country it has the potential to be once again."

How about, "Get lost, George!"

Definitely sleep rather than stay up and get all riled up about nothing. It won't make one difference in the world if our eyes are not on him - Mr. 28% approval (CBS poll).

Fortunately, for my family, I have another commitment so I won't be able to watch. The house is safe for now. But I DO regret not being able to see Jim Webb's smackdown, it ought to be fantastic.

I dont watch Dumbya speaking (unless it's a clip or somewhere I can't avoid)

and certainly won't bother with his recycled speechifying efforts in this SOTU...but I might read parts of transcripts later. I wouldn't mind seeing Webb speak - and might catch that part.

As for closing lines...what I'd like to say (if it was me or ME) would be: "And Don't even THINK of trying to take some belated credit for the things we, in Congress, accomplish in the next two years! All these domestic and foreign policy fixes will be created in Spite of Your Incompetent Obstructionism of the past six years and will done on following the Will of the American People... a concept you do not understand!"

I can't stand to watch Leader dearest speak. It sget my blood pressure up too high. He is the phoniest of phony, and his public speaking skills reflect this. i will read the transcript after the fact.

I like Coffee Messiah response.

The lame man has become a now a lame duck also, why even bother watching. The SOTU has become nothing but another political propaganda, he will ignore the state of the U.S. in favor of his unpopular conservative agenda that has nothing to do with what is good for the U.S.

Last line?

"That great Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, said of the Bush presidency, "You can't fool all of the people all of the time," as the president's 28% approval rating shows.

You will note that the President spent almost no time in his address speaking about his debacle in Iraq, which is of course the most important topic bearing on the state of the union. But then again, after being so wrong about so much in justifying the war with lies and prosecuting the war and its aftermath so incompetently, did you really expect him to talk about his decision to throw more of your children's lives away? Please!

just like you refused to stand with us in the line at viet nam, just like you were willing to let us go while making sure you did not go yourself. just like others paid the financial price for your blunders in business. you are now asking us to pay more of your bills, in the blood of our sons and daughters. until your family is there, under fire with our children, you have no right, no authority to ask that of the rest of us. before he asked the greeks to sail with him to troy agammemnon sacrificed his daughter on the altar of apollo. what have you sacrificed? not your reputation. we knew you were a lying, thieving frat boy. that's your legacy forever now. do us all a favor. quit. walk away. go to crawford and catch another bass. quit killing our children.

(ok, more than a line but i feel strongly about this)

I don't know why you would watch it any way. The way I see his SOTUA is like a movie. Each new address is a remake. Essentially the same with changes to fit the times. I hope you get better soon. I really am getting tired of Pres. Bush.
